While we visited Arrowhead for the skating, we were pleasantly surprised at all the entertainment options for our winter day visit. While waiting for the ice to open, we were pointed towards the tubing hill which, while I was somewhat apprehensive, was an absolute blast. The track reminds me a little of a bobsled track with walls on each side of the chute with gentle bends and small hills which might be jumps if you could somehow muster up a lot more speed. The workout is still for the return to the top in the climb. there are several hiking trails as well as snowshoeing and crosscountry skiing options as well. Well worth the price of admission.
Beautifully groomed trails in a fantastic setting. Lots of options for every ability level. Also skated on their groomed trail/rink.
We skated on the outdoor skating trail through the forest, and also the same day , we went x-country skiing. We had a fantastic time, highly recommended.
Park has lots of activities for snowlovers. Make sure to check when the skate trail opens, so you can time arriving at the park before hand, and avoid the long line-up to get into the park.
Snowshoeing trails - about 2 hour trails with kids - skating on a trail through the bush, tubing down a hill = a super fun day. We love coming here.
We went with our boys a Saturday night the end of February to use the ice skating loop. It was fantastic. Had torch lit path from parking lots to ice loop. The entire loop was also lot by tiki torches, such a lovely touch. The entire family enjoyed it! The park even gives you hot chocolate after. Awesome and really inexpensive experience. Worth the trip!
The skating loop was a lot of fun. We also went on a snowshoe trail, it was well marked and easy to follow.
Hit the skating trail and hiked to the waterfall and jumped in the snow… Will be back in the summer.
We went to Arrowhead park specifically for the skate trail. We got there on the last day of the season for the nightly skate with the trail lit by tiki torches. It was beautiful. If you love ice skating and being immersed in nature this is a great way to spend an evening (or day). They have a fire pit with limited seating, lots of picnic tables to sit at while putting on/taking off your skates, and shelving for boots. It is all outdoors though so make sure you're prepared to stay warm in the elements. And there are public washrooms but a 2-3 minute walk from the skate trail.
This was probably fantastic....before word got out. Breakfast t.v in TO featured this so stand back and don't get trampled in the stampede. I was there last Saturday with a friend who has a park membership and recommended we go a little later because of the increasing popularity. We arrived shortly after 7 p.m. (skating finishes at 9) and were met by a solid stream of vehicles leaving. Still far too many people in there, had to hunt for parking. If anyone thinks the Rideau Canal is too busy-don't got to this! It's a much narrower, much shorter trail, with so many people knocking into each other all you hear is "oops, sorry" " sorry" " sorry" very Canadian-lol.Lots of nice touches-free hot chocolate, fires going, benches, places to store your boots and very friendly park staff. The trail itself is pretty with the tiki torches lit. Great atmosphere if you can catch a glimpse of the torches through the people! I enjoyed it but if anyone finds a quieter time to go let me know!
Trails have been flooded and you are able to skate through the forest from 3-9pm along a tiki lit skate trail. Benches to lace up your skates and a outside bomb fire to roast some hot dogs when your done .Also tubing and cross country skiing at location. A great family and couple destination!
I recently enjoyed the cross country skiing and the ice skating through the bush at Arrowhead park,it is a great way to spend the day and just the drive into the party is breath taking. They also offer tubing (I didn't try that this time but have in the past and again a ton of fun) and snow shoeing as well. All well marked out trails and a ton of them for all levels of cross country skiers. If you are in the Huntsville area in the winter I highly recommend you check this park out!
The skating trail is awesome. Beautiful scenery and good quality ice. Well maintained. We went on a Saturday though and it was very busy. So much better than a standard rink.
I can't say enough about Arrowhead Provincial Park.We girls rented the newly built cabins they have on site 2 night split between us all .Very reasonable all activities included, barbecue supplied and some kitchen utensials also.Nice and quiet we felt alone in the park Only skating was busy but we waited till the crowd dispersed skated late at night.Showers did not disaspoint nice hot water, bathrooms clean but some ran out of toilet paper.I'm sure they didn't expect the people they had on saturday. The only thing i would like to see is the clealiness of the cabins to be address i understand they are always rented but they need to clean the fan blade and give it a good vacuum behind and under beds very dusty.maybe once a week not every cleaning.Loved it .Coming back in three years hope things are the same.On last thing staff was incredible and very accomodating. Thanks a million.
I read a bunch of reviews prior to coming and a lot of people gave our poor reviews due to issues like, lack of equipment rentals, long parking lines, uneven ice, busy skate trail, among other things. While I do agree that these are issues, I think one needs to set realistic expectations (come early for equipment rentals, same for avoiding parking lines). We came here on one of the last weeks where they would have tiki-lit night skating after reading reviews, I knew that I should arrive a bit earlier in order to beat the crowd. We arrived at roughly 12pm, hiked around Stubb Falls (has some nice photo-ops), did the Hemlock and Mayflower trails and finished by around 4pm (the trails are not very long, although they are a bit hilly). When arriving at 12pm, it is early and if you don't do cross country skiing, you may run out of activities quickly. At 12pm, there weren't many cars in the parking lot yet and we easily found parking right by the skate trail.Once skating started, the area becomes fairly packed. My friends who came for the skating, after 30 minutes of when they started rentals, they already ran out of most sizes, so be prepared. The skating area is not that big, you can easily do a lap in under 5 minutes, but I enjoyed all the time we spent there. The ice is uneven, it is not very wide (probably 3 meters wide), but I came expecting these and I had a good time. We waited until night when they lit the torches and it is amazing to share with your friends and loved ones. I would suggest coming just at dusk though because I think the trail probably gets REALLY dark when night time hits since the torches are a bit more spread out than I expected. While there, there was a helpful park ranger who helped us with photos and told us all about the park.Although I probably won't do this again any time soon, it was a great experience. Just make sure you go with the correct expectations and you will have a great time.
