I really enjoy my time in this museum every time I visit it. It's very informative and has lot's of sweet and interesting artifacts. You learn a lot about Oakville's origins through the family of it's founder. As you walk from one room to another you'll see the furnishings, the clothing, toys etc. The museum often has temporary exhibits the one that I liked was women dresses from 20th to contemporary. You won't regret if the museum is in you itinerary.
This is a lovely spot right on Lake Ontario. If you are interested in architecture, everyday living and/or local history, this is a nice little museum to spend 1/2 hour.
This is a great musem in an old house. The grounds are beautiful right on the lake. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the black history display talking about the underground railway connection. If you have an hour or so to wander around - do it.
Once you dive into Oakville's history you'll be amazed how rich it is. Did you know that the KKK was active in Oakville in 1930! Or that Oakville played a role in the underground railway freeing many black slaves from the US?
This town run attraction gives one the sense of local history within the 1800's. Althought it is a small building, the exhibits and knowledgeable staff members make up for this area. In fact, local Scouting was aacknowledged with a display and weekend activity during Scout Week two years ago.
