This is an annual event for us. The kids like the hands on experience and enjoy the in character guides that explain what it was like to live in that part of the world before modern conveniences. Lots of walking so where comfortable shoes and clothing.

Beautiful views. Docks for boaters. Clean restaurant. Excellent entertainment at the King's Wharf Theatre. Buskers and a mini market would be a great addition to the space.

Well laid out with excellent written data and interested guides. Not expensive at $7 each. Easy to park and easy to walk the area.

Very pleasently suprised by the visit..We were not even expecting anything like thius we visited after laobour day, so staffing level was low, but exhibibs and what staff they had were very helpful and knowledgable...The Hull of the Ship and building put up around it to protect it was quite impressive.. a good use of tax money I would say...Interesting history of Great lakes and the 1812 war with US...

We went Aug 2014 with my 4 year old daughter. It is great! There are 2 tall ships to explore, buildings with activities for kids, beautiful view to the bay as well as an important piece of Canadian history.Just note that it is 1 km long to get all the way to the end.

Our motel manager told us about Discovery Harbour, so we went for a visit, and were really glad we did. It was a great experience. It wasn't the nicest day to be outside, so there weren't many people there, which made for a very quiet experience. All the staff members are dressed in period costumes and are very knowledgeable. The commanding officers' house at the far end is worth the extra walk. The gal who worked there the day we visited was remarkably knowledgeable. She has studied to learn as much as she can about the house, the site and its history. Because there was nobody else there, we got a full private tour of the house. I was also really impressed with the new Tecumseth Centre. It is only a few months old, and was built to house the raised hull of the Tecumseth ship. The exhibits in this centre are top-notch. I especially loved the entrance to the theatre. It is a model of part of the Tecumseth, complete with water rushing along beside the ship, as if we were on the high seas!

Great exhibit, History lesson for all ages. Great activities for all ages.my three year old loved the boat making and ship exploring and I loved exploring the history of the ships and seeing the replicas and originals in all a great experience for the whole family

We arrived shortly after it opened and were there for 3 hours. As opposed to other reviews we found there was no waiting in line. We did discover that the tours are on the hour, so we went down and saw the tall ships which are not part of the tour before returning to the main entrance for the tour. We had the tour guide Louisa to ourselves for most of the tour (one person joined us for a few houses) so it was very personal. She was excellent with lots of great information, as were all those at the various sites we visited on the tour. We had to leave after 3 hours to have lunch before the boat tour or we could have stayed another hour. I recommend going mid-week if you can and early in the day to avoid lines or big tour groups. There were children's activities which we did not take part in but if you have kids it would be great.

We found out about Discovery Harbour by accident. We spent a very pleasant afternoon there and wonder why it isn't advertised more. We noted it was family friendly and there seemed to be something for everybody. Note there is a theatre on site and we were told by locals that the entertainment provided there is very good. There is a golf cart shuffle that takes you from the parking area down to the entrance. This is great help to older people and those with mobility issues.

We found the buildings very interesting, the costumed personnel well informed and friendly and the setting lovely. Life may have been tough in those days but they sure had a pleasant view when they got up in the morning. One member of our party uses a walker and we were offered the use of an electric scooter which made his visit much more pleasant. We didn't have children with us so we didn't go to the children's discovery area, but we did see the results of one family - sweet wooden boats. All in all a worthwhile visit

We spent a beautiful afternoon at Discovery Harbour on the weekend. The historical interpreters did a wonderful job educating us on the different buildings and knew many interesting facts pertaining to the time period. We were very impressed with the period costumes and the site itself is very picturesque on the shores of Georgian Bay. The staff engaged our children and let them try out various games, sit in a hammock and make model boats. We will definitely recommend this to family and friends as an attraction not to be missed!

We love going to historical places across Ontario. The Discovery Harbour is an interesting place to visit, with tall ships to see (kids played seek'n'hide and washed the deck)There's a workshop available where kids build their own ships as well

It was one of the highlights of our 3 week visit to Ontario. We arrived at 10:30 am, had an excellent coffee in the restaurant before enjoying the 11 am guided tour through the many buildings to the Officers' Quarters at the north of the site. Unfortunately we would have loved more time as we had arranged to go on the afternoon's 30,000 Island cruise (also to be recommended). The new H.M.S. Tecumseth Centre housing the original 1815 hull remains of H.M.S. Tecumseth, was excellent, but we did not do it justice, before a quick boarding of the replica H.M.S.Tecumseth and smaller H.M.S.Bee. We had an enjoyable lunch in the Restaurant where the service was very prompt, the staff knowing that we were due to be on the Georgian Queen within the hour.

What a fabulous experience we had at Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene. Our tour guide Emily was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the history of the site. She had a large tour group and was very good with the children. There were a few hands on activities that we could do and the kids loved the games and working with the wood tools. It is a beautiful spot overlooking Penetanguishene Bay. The site is well laid out, there is a lot of walking but well worth the walk. The other interpretive staff were also very knowledgeable. We would go back again.
