The Pickering Museum village is a great family day out. There are hands on demonstrations of pioneer life and through the Spirit Walks, you can interact with in-period actors who portray exciting historical moments in Pickering's history. I was really moved by the passion and dramatization of the actors, they are awesome! The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and stay in character throughout your visit. The Pickering Museum Village is great value and well worth a visit.

Went with my two nieces aged 5 and 7 and had a really good time. While this village is smaller than Blackcreek pioneer village there are less people so you can interact more with the staff. The staff are very knowable and always willing to share information.I recommend going for their Halloween event as they do pumpkin carving (you have to buy the pumpkin).

This event is put on by the Great Volunteers at Pickering Village Museum. They spend a lot of time behine the scenes, getting this day ready., They sew, bake and create., to make this event great. It is an Experiece to show how the early Settlers who came to the Pickering area, lived and worked, in conditions we should respect. It is a chance to bring All the Family, and see and take part in Scottish Hogmanay, Welsh Tradition and Victorian Christmas, You can visit Father Christmas at the General store, and even buy gifts for yourself and friends and family, such as jams and pickles, even lavender bags., All done by the volunteers., and using fruit and vegetables and herbs all grown on the grounds. Make it a day out, and enjoy what this Museum has to offer.

We were warmly welcomed at the reception building and then by costumed staff throughout the site. We watched ladies cooking over an open flame in an early pioneer log cabin and then making fritters in the Temperance Hotel. In the blacksmith’s forge, a volunteer was hard at work. All the buildings are completely authentic and were moved here to save them from destruction. The whole place is compact, so there’s not much walking around needed, except from the reception to the village, but that’s a pretty walk down the hill and over the stream. Charming. It gives a good taste of what life must have been like in the mid to late 1800s. In the middle of the summer kids seemed to be enjoying their special programming with costumed counsellors. Highlight for me was watching the antique steam traction engine at work. They even let me blow the whistle!

I really like the Thursday Pioneer Kids' Days. Our boys just loved playing the games and doing the crafts. The staff working with the kids were AWESOME! When it was time for the tour, however, each building we traveled to more and more people were added to our group. By the 4th house we could not longer enjoy the tour and left. There were almost 20 people by that time and it was impossible to see what the tour guide was indicating.

I was so impressed with the village and the tour guides! The setting is beautiful and the tours are set up so logically. I could have stayed all day. They also had wonderful engaging activities and crafts for children. The value for entrance was perfect!

Not an overly exciting place anymore. Used to be much better. Either the attendance is down and they don't care of just not putting the money into it.

Lovely old place. You really feel like you have gone back in time. Worth spending a couple of hours.

Located not too far from Toronto, this village contains buildings etc from the early 1800s which were originally located in the area. Tour guides were all extra-friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The site is in a beautiful little valley with a river running through it. The day we visited a company was filming for the Documentary Channel. The children also were having a good time. They have a garden here where they grow food for preservation--which they sell to the public.

We are so sorry to hear that you had trouble viewing a building or the site for rental purposes. If there is a staff member available, it is our standard practice to take guests down for a rental viewing, even if we are closed to the public. We are not sure why you had such difficulty, and will certainly be following up with front line staff to ensure this does not happen again. Thank you for letting us know.

My girls and I enjoyed the spirit walk. It was like no other walk we have ever been on. The actors did a great job of drawing us in and having us become part of the event. The history was really brought to life by the acting, the surroundings and the crisp night air. Our visit was an experience to remember and we look forward to visiting again next year.

Educational and fun on a day out with the family. Great for young children. Will return in the future when they are a few years older as well. Staff is very friendly.

This museum is a beautiful place to visit. Staff is friendly and they do many demonstrations. The surroundings are scenic, especially because of a creek passing through it, which provides a good opportunity for photography. Not far from urban centers.

Will give you and your family a chance to go back in time. You can take a picnic and then stroll through the buildings and meet the friendly people who can tell you all about the things inside and out. You will love it.

This is a wonderful place to take children to give them a taste of yesteryear. Likewise, a great place for dinner theatre - outdoors with an opportunity to talk to the players. what more could you ask for? There's something here for all ages and a variety of interests.
