I don't understand dtabone's review "What a disappointment": we mustn't be talking about the same Atomic Roasters! The coffee is great, the service is excellent and it just adds yet another great fexperience in the Port Hope landscape.
I was so looking forward to visiting Atomic Roasters with such good reviews however I could not have been more disappointed. We made a special trip to visit Atomic Roaster and were greeted by a very unfriendly proprietor and such poor customer service. You would think that the owner( and we know this only because of some literature that was hanging on the wall) would always put their best foot forward. It wasn't like the place was busy and it was the Tuesday after the long weekend. My party was a group of four and I was looking at getting something unique or "different" than the usual cappuccino etc the only suggestion I got was the owner pointing his finger to the hand written menu board and not uttering a word. Do not recommend stopping at this location ever.
My colleagues and I dropped into Atomic for coffee and chocolates during a work trip. The owner was so delightful and made us specialty hot chocolate-coffees with a chili kick. So delicious! The chocolates they sell are also unbelievably delicious. Atomic is a must-stop in Port Hope!
My Port Hope visit would not be complete without having some wonderful Atomic Roasters coffee.Drink in the aroma of the fresh roasted beans (on site) and make sure to complete the experience with some beautiful Mercury chocolates as the perfect companion. I double dare you to stop at one. Darren Johns is such a lovelyperson, so friendly and welcoming.and so knowledgeable about food and travel... you will probably be a while. Enjoy!
What a nice way to spoil yourself ! Walked into this little shop to have a cappacino and ended up trying 6 different chocolates. The dark chocolate, which is good for you, therefore hardly counts as calories in my book and these chocolate creations are a result of the owners own research and expertise. Tried the caramel and sea salt. What a different taste sensation , My husband 's favourite was the Aztec chili. The owner obviously takes pride in his business and is eager to answer questions. Loved the colour of his walls and his sunny disposition. This is a Port Hope treasure !
There is coffee and then there is Atomic - Fare Trade coffees roasted by chef and chocolatier Darren Johns - what could be better? Personally, I love their Cappuccino - creamy, rich, full-bodied. When next in Port Hope, you won't want to miss this galactic stop.
They have their own coffee roasting machine which sends out an irresistable aroma. Beans from Sumatura, Africa, Brazil, Columbia. Mostly dark roasts. Impeccable, artful, friendly coffee service, attention to detail, European style pride...Who Knew? Great Coffee.... and Mercury Chocolates are made onsite as well. Fantastic.
Do NOT leave Port Home without checking out Atomic Roasters on John Street. Right in the hub of historic Port Hope, Atomic features an eclectic selection of fresh-roasted coffee - available by the cup, or in beans for take-home purposes. And because Atomic shares the space with Mercury Chocolates, you have also enjoy the exquisite flavours of hand-made confections at the same time. Note: You can also try Atomic Roasters at Port Hope's outstanding Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings.
