Took kids there to start off the March break and had a great time. There was so much to see! We did it at our own pace, which ended up being a good 2 &1/2 hours. The gift shop was reasonably priced which allowed for the kids to get a few items. It was an affordable and fun afternoon. The owners were so kind and gentle with the kids. We ended up buying a years pass and look forward to going back and keeping the gift shop in mind for future birthdays!
This is one of my favourite places to visit. The private collection is vast and varied and the owner loves to take you on a tour and give you lots of background information. Something for everyone including a good little dinosaur display. Don't miss the gift shop. It really is a hidden gem.
This museum is filled with many incredibly interesting and high-quality exhibits. The owner of the museum is very passionate about what he does and it shows. He is very knowledgeable about everything in the museum and I learned a lot of great information in a fairly short amount of time. I would recommend this place to anyone interested in stones, dinosaur bones, taxidermied animals, etc.
love all the info you can get doing the tour. If you decide not to do the tour you can still learn so much and see so many interesting things. We usually go at least twice a year and everything we learn something new. Great place to hang out with your family on a rainy day.
A large amount of fossils from all over the world and an excellent selection of artifacts from the surrounding area. A supremely preserved butterfly and moth display.
Our family planned a visit to this museum as an educational experience for our 4 children. There weren't many visitors when we arrived, which allowed us a personal experience with the owner. He is a wealth of knowledge regarding his collection which we found to be wonderful for our kids. The museum itself is much larger than you would expect upon arrival. We all enjoyed seeing the exhibits! What we could have done without, were some verbally expressed judgments made by the owner whom should know better when running a business. If one must say "It's none of my business, BUT..."... Maybe it shouldn't be said at all.
We've been going to Canatara for over 60 years; love this old park! It hasn't changed too much over the years and that's fine with us. While the beach was our focus in times past, we now just like to have a quiet picnic and visit with family.
An eclectic collection of Canadian, animals, dinosaur mineral and oceanic displays, really interesting gift shop, Jim the curator and owner gives awesome tours and his wife Allison keeps the gift shop stalked with economically priced
Been here a few times with my family in the past. Lots of neat things to see. The owner was awesome. Ask to see his tanzinite gem he carries around. Amazing!
After hearing about the museum for a couple of years I finally visited and was amazed at the collection: dinosaurs, rare fossils, crystals, lions, bears and so much more. The staff are friendly and entertaining and the cost is very reasonable. A definite gem.
My mom told me about this place and I had my doubts. Upon visiting the first floor I was blown away with how much there was to see. The second floor was our favorite = gems, insects, butterflies, minerals and fossils. We live in Los Angeles and have been to the Natural History Museum and Stones n Bones gave their insect/butterfly, fossil section a run for their money! (on a smaller scale, but very well done) My only dislike was that the owner kept following us and giving us detailed tours of everything -- we had an infant in tow and he never noticed how she'd start crying when he came too close and I'd try to be polite and move away. His cologne was really offensive too. He meant well and his passion for his museum is apparent. Bless him for his hard work and enthusiasm....just read people a bit more when they're quietly browsing the museum...maybe they wish to keep it that way. Older children will enjoy his stories, educational insights and jokes.
I give this museum 10 out of 10!! If you've never been there, GO! They have the coolest exhibits and they give informative and educational tours for kids and adults! This is a DEFINITE must-see on everyone's bucket list!! I took my 16 year old twins and none of us wanted to leave!!
This is a great place. My kids are just little and they loved it. I'm sure when they can read they will get even more out of it!The staff is really friendly and it's not usually overly busy.I would like to go without my kids so I can take my time and really look at all the amazing and unique treasures there.A much better use of your time than an amusement park.
This small museum is a treat. There are extensive collections of animals (bones) and minerals (stones). The curator/owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend it next time you're in Sarnia.
To have such a collection on display is great for the community. It illustrates the wonderful diversity of life throughout earth's history. Great for nerdy dates, art inspiration, school trips, or just to have your mind blown by nature's wonders.
