If you are a history buff or just want more info on Sault Ste Marie, this is worth a visit. Lots of exhibits to enjoy which include the Edmond Fitzgerald.

Really great museum, which was originally a Post Office build in the early 1900s. It contains displays, which show primarily the sporting, shipping and native history of the Soo. A real bonus is the huge photography exhibit on the first floor, so the museum is a must-visit for photography or graphics students or just aficionados. You should be able to knock this out in about an hour to an hour and a half, so it won't take much time out of your travel itinerary.

I love going to these small local Museums. This one was well curated and lots of good exhibits. Each floor has a theme and there is a good flow as you move forward in time. My favorite "local" part was the third floor, sports. They display the "Greyhounds Hockey" teams. (Greyhounds since they wanted to be fast on the ice!"). A number of NHL stars came from the Soo. Well worth the $6 admission.

Spent 2 hours here reading all the captions, seems to be run on bit of a shoestring hence the closure on Sundays (which has been mentioned on here before ).Some good photos on display .

For those that like trains & beautiful scenery this is an excellent trip. The train departs at 0800 and returns at 5:30 PM. The fall colors were about at it's brightest. The rugged Canadian Shield on which the Agawa Canyon sits was formed 2.5 billion years ago some of the oldest rock on earth. As the train slowly winds it's way through the rugged rock formations, lakes, rivers, creeks and forests a GPS triggered commentary gives history and up coming points of interest. The commentary is available in English, French, German, Japanese & Mandarin. Make sure you bring your camera. At mile 102 the train starts it's decent from the top of the canyon & 12 miles later and over 500ft lower ends at the Agawa Canyon Park at mile 114. Here we have1.5 hours to explore the park which has three water falls, Bridal Falls and North & South Black Beaver Falls walking trails or just relax and enjoy the view which is breath taking. For those that are adventurous & energetic there is a look out platform which is 250 ft & 300 steps above the Canyon which gives you an excellent panoramic view. There is a full service dining car that serves breakfast & lunch or you can buy a box lunch on board or bring your own cooler with drinks and food. The train cars are all modern, clean with big windows to give you excellent opportunities for photography.

If you love history, or just appreciate seeing old artifacts, you'll most certainly enjoy a visit here. It was especially interesting for me to learn more about my city and the children were given special activities to do for our group tour.

We were soooo disappointed that the Museum was shut on Sunday when we made a weekend visit to Sault Ste Marie. We came from England and drove for 2 days from Toronto to get here, and could not believe that the Museum and Art Gallery were not open on Sundays - when do they think most people will visit???? Not during weekdays when most people are working... or kids are at school.

This is filled with a local history of the town, it occupies the site of the old post office. It may not be appreciated by people who are not connected with the town. Recommended to anyone who are into museums or history.

This was a self-guided tour museum with well-organized exhibits of the local history. Wonderful old building with lots of charming effects.

Get to know Sault Ste Marie with a hands on experience. Lots of local history to be had in a controlled climate.

We are new to the Soo and my children wanted to visit this museum to find out more about our new home. They thoroughly enjoyed it, particularly the ship exhibit on the top floor.
