Lakeside - I could have been on the shores of the pacific or Atlantic oceans!Very clean, fantastic scenery, amenities and parking very close by - perfect.
I love this place in the summer. Picnic paradise. Free parking and beautiful view. Always a great way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon. I highly recommend this to anyone.
This is a beautiful area, however, sometimes the water is not swimmable or safe. Worth a stop though, to find out. Has a lot of potential. Lots of free parking. I wish they would put more things in the area to do.
The area is nice and clean. There is a covered area where you can use the benches and bring your own food or barbeque and enjoy the facilities. There is also a carousel in the park that still costs only 5 cents to ride. A great place for family picnic, swimming or just for a stroll along the board walk.
the beach was so clean! I just wish the water was swimmable. But the kids had a blast in the sand, and my son loved watching everyone play ball :).
We just stopped by for the view and the carousel but wanted to walk on the beach to say we'd touched the lake. There were many signs warning against swimming due to pollution and yet many people were in the water...strange. Scenic spot though if you also don't mind geese droppings.
Whether strolling along the pier or walking the beach this park has great outdoor appeal. We visited on an April morning as trees were just budding; and we visited again on a June evening as the sun was setting. It was more crowded in June because of the nicer weather. But not too crowded to enjoy a walk with the dog and greet some friendly St. Catharines' locals. This park is definitely dog-friendly. We even found some unoccupied grassy area to play frisbee with the dog. We missed the carousel ride!
My wife and I were honeymooning in Niagara Falls. We had already done all of the falls related attractions and were looking to explore. Lakeside Park was a mere 20 minute drive from our hotel. I was initially drawn to this place because my favorite musical act Rush had wrote and recorded a song about it. What I found was a quiet, off the beaten path, but scenic place. In addition to the beach, there is a fishing pier and marina. Also, within walking distance was a pub as well as other local shops. An added bonus is that there is a large parking area that does not charge. This was refreshing after so many other things in the area charging for everything. My advice to anybody vacationing in The Falls, is to head to Lakeside Park instead of Niagara-on-the-lake. It's a quieter, inexpensive alternative.
A must to see if the weather is good. Lots of benches to sit on to enjoy watching the birds, boats and lighthouses. Sand had been cleaned and raked.
We spent a lovely evening watching the sun set here last summer. Super views across the lake to Toronto. Very pleasant stroll along the pier and lots of photo opportunities. Good ice cream nearby. Unfortunately the water was off limits due to high pollution levels, according to signage posted in the sand. Sad that such a super spot is not swimable.
When you go don"t forget to take some money to ride the carousel. The beach has lots of room ,is clean and has beach volleyball courts.A walk along the wall of the first Welland Canal is worth the short hike
The beach is great. Great view and it's also in a perfect spot. Swimming is fun and teens will love all the teens at the beach. Overall great experience.
We went on an unusual cool July morning however your kids still enjoyed the water and sand. I loved the view of the lighthouse and boats heading out and I watched them play in the sand and water. There are restrooms, a concession stand, and picnic tables close by as well as a carousel and free parking. Just be sure to get there early for the parking. When we left around 1:00, people were circling the lot looking for a place to park.
Was a beautiful Pier to walk along. Lots of greenery. Beautiful carousel! The beach is a gorgeous stretch of sand, unfortunately however, NO swimming signs were posted :(
Going to university in St. Catharines, it was always fun to go to Port Dalhousie, going to the bars, watching the beach volleyball at "The Cottage" Bar. I was shocked and saddened when I was there on May 2-4 weekend, 2013. I knew there was development, but it hit home when it was visited on this weekend. Many buildings are border up, the famous two-floored Candy Store is gone, and it seems just to be empty. Mind you, if you are going only for the $0.05 Carousel or the beach, they deliver. Families will still appreciate the value and fun of the Carousel, the beach is still maintained. I believe once the Condos are built, they will breathe life into the area, until then; unless you are going just for the beach or carousel, avoid...
