shaw woods outdoor education centre

On Mother's Day, our family enjoyed a wonderful walk in the Shaw Woods, 20 minutes from Pembroke. This acreage features an old growth forest with a cathedral of giant hemlocks. There is a diverse species of trees and much evidence of small wildlife and birds who call the Shaw Woods home. The series of trails are easily navigated and wind through various loops and stretches ranging from 0.6 - 1.9 km in length - choose one or choose them all. Dogs can join the fun if they are on leashes. At the entrance to the Woods there is a good-sized parking area and portable toilet facility. A map with guidance on the features of the woods is also availablle A humongous pine pavilion awaits for those who bring picnics - I'd bet 40 or more people could set at the split log table! Free, educational and a great way to spend 2 hours without travelling too far from the city.
