Rates above excellent 10 stars. Part museum, part lecture, part video, part Ontario wildlife education, part archery range, part pellet gun range, part supervised live fishing. If you visit only one place in Peterboro this is it..
Those who like fishing and/or hunting and even just nature lovers and environmentalists will find this a great place to visit. Knowledgable people will answer all your related questions.
I wouldn't go out of my way to come see this because it's very small but we were in the area and it was fun. We picnicked outside at a table which was lovely and my kids (10 & 12) really enjoyed the table of pelts (they were labelled so you could compare animals). Look closely in the kids section and you'll see a display of scat (did you know bees poop?). The movie theatre was unbelievable but the kids weren't interested in the movie. Lots of stuffed animals. The ladies there were very interesting and the kids got to pet the garder snakes.
This centre asks for donations as your entry fee. There is no A/C and the day we were there, it was hot!!! There is a nice fish tank filled with native species, and if you time it right, you can watch the fish feeding. They have some good habitat displays, lots of information about introduced species (i.e. zebra mussels etc.) and then a big touchy/feely room that would be perfect for small kids - they can touch fur and antlers and trace trackmarks etc. There also is a comfortable theatre where you can watch excerpts from different movies - when we were there it was Planet Earth. It is not all about hunting! There is a big, free parking lot.I would recommend it, esp. for families if they are looking for something to do for a few hours on a rainy day.
