Strongly disliked seeing grown men (politicians) yell and each other and interrupt someone trying to speak. Very bad example for children.
If you're going to go to the Capital of Canada, why wouldn't you stop here?So much history, as must-visit for any Canadian. There are organized tours, you must go with a guide to see most of the building, but you can get up to see the Peace Tower (when it's open). We brought our kids who, although they're still a little young to understand the significance, we pretty excited to see a building that's featured on our money. As an adult, the tour was very informative, the staff very enthusiastic about the job they do and all very proud Canadians. A great refresher of high school history classes and still pretty cool to see where our country is governed from.
Parliament Hill is an iconic building of Canada, but your visit will be somewhat limited. To explore the parliament, you must take a free tour that lasts around 45 minutes. You get to see very nice parts of the parliament--the senate chamber, the commons chamber, confederation hall, the old library--but once the tour guide's speech is done, you might have a couple minutes to look around the area where you are. Also you cannot explore the tour guided areas on your own and appreciate the paintings and architecture that's around you. This said, once the tour is over, you can only visit confederation hall, the gift shop, and a chamber dedicated to the Canadians fallen in war. It's important to note that the Peace Tower was closed during our visit, the West Block was under construction (and will be for the foreseeable future) and you can only take tours of the East Block in July and August. The Parliament of Canada is a beautiful building, inside and out, but don't expect to be able to fully enjoy its architecture and beauty.
My title says it all... site under construction when I was 16, when I was 26, and still going at 38. I think they do construction on top of the last construction as a creative way to blow through taxpayer money. Welcome to Canada's money pit.
We enjoyed the free guided tour to Parliament Hill. The tour lasted 50 minutes, it was super informative and enjoyable.
