I was here a few years ago during the summer.I had to check off something below so I chose a summer month. I think I was here in 2008 or 2009. It is a stately old building, reminiscent of European churches. I have seen the churches in Paris, Rome Cologne, London, Dublin and the Vatican. This one holds up as worth a visit. Certainly it is outstanding by North American standards. It has a crappy location next to an unsightly bridge, old run down neighbourhoods, university students and traffic and congestion. I'll bet that at one time this was a nice place before "civilization" crept in and encroached upon it. And since the church was here first, you can't blame it for the 'neighbours' that moved in and ruined the area. Take a look at it and imagine it on a couple of hectares of lawn with some old trees dotting the glebe. Think something like Blenheim in England. That old church would be a world class attraction. The place has some "good bones", but apparently it is in need of massive and expensive remediation. The inside is gorgeous. Typically what one thinks of when one imagines an old traditional church. Apparently the Church administration in London has to let it go because they failed to keep it up in even minimum repair. I do not even know if it is still open for visitors. I see that there are no longer religious services going on in there. Perhaps it should be taken over by some historical society to keep it going. If anything in that area needs to go, it is that ugly bridge, not the Church.
This is a beautiful old church, built in 1842. Unfortunately, the diocese has closed the church, the last mass being held November 2, 2014. There are many repairs needed, requiring at least 10 million dollars to complete. It's a shame to lose this amazing church.
This is comparable to the beautiful churches of Europe. In North America we don't preserve our buildings like in Europe. This is certainly worth looking at as it is very unique.
Bishop is closing due to necessary repairs and lack of funding. Shame on Catholic church since Assumption is oldest church west of Montreal
It is an old church with beautiful acoustics and therefore well suited for concerts.Located on the University of Windsor campus, close to the river.
This is a wonderfully, somewhat gothic, historic church. It is ornate and serene inside but it is in need of help. Suppor is needed for restoration and repair and one attempt at fund raising resulted in some questionable practices and, perhaps, slippage of donated funds to the fund-raisers rather than to the Church. A new campaign is in place and one hopes that it will succeed before this magnificent and historic old lady succumbs to the wrath of time. Need a place for quiet and conemplation Assumption is a wonderful location but wathc out for the local University's wildly excessive parking fees.
