We were here at the Neptune In Hali for Mary Poppins and it was fantastic! One of the best memories... there is nothing quite like live theatre!
Fabulous! A must see! Jamie Williams as The Old Man stole the show! Loved every minute of it! Set and costume design were great, and sound and lighting were spot on!
My friend and I have had season's tickets to Neptune since 1983. This is our escape to the city and we have almost always enjoyed the variety of plays we see. We added the Studio Series to our package a few years after starting and the quality of those plays has increased tremendously... right up to the highlight this season. Billy Bishop Goes to War was an excellent one man musical (with accompaniment)! What incredible talent displayed by Kyle Blair as he played the main character and most of the supporting characters as well. The only other one on stage (Adam White) provided the musical accompaniment and just a few needed voices. The presentation was well timed (right around November 11) and was an educational (for me) tribute to Billy Bishop, one of Canada's war heroes. This is not a new play, but was new to us and we were mesmerized by the story, the songs and the talent. We are looking forward to the Christmas show (A Christmas Story) and the rest of the plays for this season.
For the past 7 years my sister, myself and 2 friends have gotten the season tickets. This is our tradition and hopefully will continue to remain as our tradition as long as we are able to attend in to our elderly years.
I love Neptune Theatre! The theatre itself is small and cozy. Excellent and professionally done performances and prices are reasonable. At intermission there are opportunities to buy soft drinks and snacks.A well spent afternoon at the theatre.
We saw Dickens "a Christmas Carol". Its was well adapted to the limitations of a live performance. Actors were excellent and the scenery and special effects were delightful.
This play was done so well. It is a good thing when a whole audience laughs during a play! The set was done up well so that you did feel you were looking into the house! The 3 actors did a wonderful job. A must see play.
We went to the Saturday matinee of the play "Mending Fences" by Norm Foster.Foster is a Canadian playwright who has written over 40 plays: witty, funny and always something to say. This performance by the three actors who, among the three of them, play 8 characters was extremely well played. Their performance was enhanced by the very creative set design and the different lighting effects. The play takes place in rural Saskatchewan and has flashbacks to a an earlier life of the same characters. If you like a laugh, take this play in - it runs until 9 November 2014. Highly recommended.
Couldn't believe that Darrin Rose was coming to our little corner of Canada, so we had to get tickets to his show. Neptune Theatre is always beautiful and finding a good show there is never a problem. It was our first time seeing stand-up there and Darrin made it a hilarious first time experience for us. His stories about his mother and family were hilarious - Street Justice!Fantastic show!
Have had the benefit of attending at least half a dozen shows over the course of a few years and can't get enough. When I know I will be in town it is the first inquiry I make. If you are lucky enough to see a show, whether a drama or musical, you will always be impressed with the professional quality of the show! The actors, direction and stage are wonderful. The cost is more than fair for anything taking place in a City. There are many places to street park, and enjoy a cocktail or supper either before or after a show. I have found that several of the productions were as enjoyable as anything I had ever seen on Broadway! I go back as often as possible and am considering getting a Season Pass, even though I live in the U.S....worth the trip for me!
I went to see Into The Woods on one of their last performances, and I was absolutely blown away. This has got to be the best quality theatre that I've seen north of Broadway. Now, I was a little skeptical paying the hefty admission price (around 60-70$ per ticket taxes in), but when I showed up before the show to buy my ticket, I realized that they had a Rush Line (where 30 minutes before the show, 20 individual tickets are sold for half price). I managed to get front-centre balcony (best seat in the house) for just under 40$. After having a few beer at the theatre bar (very reasonably priced) I made my way into the theatre. Being a huge Sondheim fan, I had high expectations for this show, and all of them were exceeded. The actress who played the witch was PHENOMENAL. Another stand out was their creative use of puppets to portray Milky-White the cow, and the giant. Will definitely be returning for A Christmas Story!
Lots of things to do and see. Great restaurants and a great place for an stroll! We enjoyed looking at the huge yachts, shoppes and brewery's!
I absolutely love going to Neptune Theatre. They always have the best plays and wonderful atmosphere. They're, to me, a bit more on the moderately-higher price range of items. If you're not sure if it's your type of thing, keep an eye out for deals they have. Sometimes they will have half price tickets on sites like WagJag.com.
Never disappoints! The theatre is not large, so most all of the seats are good seats. They bring in great shows from away, and also host high quality local productions.
If you can get tickets to Neptune, GO!!!! You will not regret it! Neptune proves that Halifax is more than a city of universities and pubs! They have skilled and talented actors and production staff. My only regret is not getting to the ticket booth early enough this spring to get tickets to Mary Poppins!!! Wont make that mistake again!!!
