we and a fun time but would plan on skating at the beginning of a public skate as opposed to the end. too much snow and skate rutts
Amazing outdoor space. Needs permanent building for lacing up. Free rentals (borrowings?) of skates and helmets make this venue accessible for most.
Great place to enjoy an outdoor activity in the winter! and it's free!!! Benches available for changing into your skates. Skate and helmet rental available if needed.
The oval is an amazing place for families, teens, adults to go and strap on a pair of skates and enjoy. Perfect for tourists as well because you can rent the skates right on the spot. Of course the enjoyment of the oval is weather dependent the city does an amazing job of keeping it in great working order.Great spot to visit while you are in our city.
I can't skate but it's been nice watching my husband teach my two kids to skate. Free rental of skates and helmets is great. Places to sit down and warm up. Good way to spend an hour or two and it's free
Very happy to have gone when I could skate. Now I CANOT have a bad hip. The kids still go and I watch them enjoy. So amazing for anyone an free. Lots of fun. And they will supply the skates if you want to go on the ice. Free.
The oval is a very fun time whether your taking kids, a date, friends or going yourself. No cost whatsoever to get in (have to pay for drinks and food) which makes it even better. Its very central, so you are close to Downtown, Citadel Hill and Quinpool Rd. In the summertime, it converts to a running/rollerskating track. It can get a bit cold in the winter so dress accordingly. i would recommned this place to any tourists who are travelling with kids or as a couple who enjoy the outdoors.
I love the whole idea of this, if your skating in the winter or walking/running in the summer. It is great spot anytime of the year to enjoy the outdoors. It is no cost to use oval or washrooms but they have a charge for snacks and drinks. Also keep in mind if there in the winter it can be cold so plan for it because it is a wide open space
A great family skating facility with equipment available at no charge. Have yet to try roller blading but it is allowed and I intend to try it.
If you want to skate in the open fresh air this is the place to go in Halifax. The surface is great quality and the safety factor is top rate.
Been trying to get to try the oval all winter and finally made it out today on the very last day of the season. Will definitely go back next season, What a gem!!
A great addition to the downtown area. Fantastic for all ages and with free access and rentals, a perfect healthy activity for anyone. Helpful staff and a great surface. It appears rather "unfinished " in terms of infrastructure. It has great potential for expansion and is certainly a great draw.
To see the throngs of people using the oval in all four seasons is nothing short of wondrous. School children arrive by the bus loads and all can get on the ice surface as there is plenty of room for all. It's really great to see and you can actually hear the ice rumble as hundreds skate around the oval. New year's Eve they have a family skate and fireworks at 730pm which are something to see as they are at least as exciting as the midnight fireworks at City Hall. Helmets are mandatory for younger folks and are free. Skates are available free too. They have slider chairs for people getting back into skating and skating lessons as well but you have to book them early in the fall as classess fill up quickly. If you are not in the mood to skate, you can watch those who are from the very hospitable bar/lounge in the Atlantica Hotel which is right across the street. All in all a fabulous addition to the city.
Amazing FRRE skating arena, with a wonderful beaver tale store ! Even the skates a free, and there're a website tat informs when the park is closed due climatics !
A public outdoor skating arena is a brilliant use of public space. Great ice, plenty of room, skaters observed skating etiquette, within walking distance of coffee shops and restaurants. Well lit. Maybe skate rentals? I was traveling and borrowed a pair from a friend.
