We spent the afternoon here, great place, where else can you go for $4.00. Beautiful grounds, there are also walking trails which we didnt take advantage of as we had an older couple with us. Picnic tables around the grounds, and a beautiful view of a lake. Next year definetly packing a lunch, and taking advantage of the beautiful scenery.

The Barrens trail was great and not too difficult. The Red Spruce Loop was so enjoyable and rustic that I can't wait to do the other trails to Thompson Lake. The more difficult trails are not manicured and that's the way I like them! You need good shoes and have to watch for tree roots. We didn't see one other person on the Red Spruce Loop in about 1.5hrs, a refreshing change from Ontario hiking. The air is so clean and not one piece of litter. The museum is small but should be visited at least so that the Estate generates some revenue ($4 fee) to keep it going (no charge for hiking but there is a donation box). This is a real gem!

The Uniacke Estate is a throw back to the early days of the Community. A history lesson awaits you when you walk in the mansion and it has a few of the original structures on the grounds and the Uniacke House takes you back to another state of time. It's basically a small museum version of the era, but what is nice about the place are the walking trails. The Estate offers many well marked walking trails around the grounds in through the surrounding wooded areas. They have become popular for locals to get some exercise and walk their dogs while enjoying the beautiful view of the lake. If for no other reason, the place is perfect for a nice walk.

We did this trail (Barrens, Red Spruce Loop, Wetlands & Post Road) for this first time today (Oct 13). As stated in the title it is a combination of wilderness (easy to moderate) and old grassy road trail. We think it would be more appealing if the wilderness trail had a little work done on it, ie: clearing/widening of the trail. It is very well marked so you don't veer off the trail. At the beginning of the Barrens trail, you walk along the lake, which is clear & pristine. We felt it could be quite buggy in the fly season, as there are a few areas of low lying marshes, but the other forested areas are very nice. All in all a great fall hike.

The weekends can be busy during student summer holidays at this walking park with historic Governor Generals country mansion museum with gifts & small cafe. Bring a picnic blanket Sat &Sundays. Me & Nacho particularly enjoy weekday, off season walks over the backside of Drumlin trail. Even on the hottest days the breezes blow over Martha Uniacke Lake like ocean winds. Fantastic views surround the estate. The barns, centuries old trees & mansion chimneys are of special interest. The Wolf weather vain needs repair but, still does an effective job high atop the barn. A great destination day trip from the city or airport. Picnic tables & washrooms In Quiet natural setting. Tour the awesome lakeside trails, the mansion, relax by the lake, take a swim, bring your canoe or Kayak, fishing rod, just live like a country gentlemen 200+ years ago. Dogs on Leash welcome. Open Dawn till dusk.

Nice museum, good history of the area. Nice place to stop and visit while in Mount Uniacke. It might not be the best place to go with small children but, there is a play park a few minutes from there.

I haven't visited the Uniacke Estate, but have been on several of the walking trails, at various times of the year.This is such a beautiful park and the trails are great for everyone, regardless of your fitness level.Check out their website for trail maps, the approx times and distances with a description of the difficulty level.And bring your camera too as there are several photo opportunities as well.I recommend this for park for all seasons, although you have to park outside the gate in the winter months.

I had never heard tell of the Uniacke Estate Museum Park. It is not far from Halifax and worth the drive. The setting is beautiful. The mansion sits on large grounds overlooking the lake. You can walk, and picnic and there is a cafe that serves drinks and a light menu. Washrooms were very clean. The history of the house is very interesting and as we were the only people there, our guide spent a lot of time showing us around and answering all our questions.A beautiful home that is shared with the public.
