little white schoolhouse museum

Fantastic! There is so much to see. And, in the basement, are all the old school textbooks from back in the 50's. I could have stayed there for hours and hours.

We stopped in at this Schoolhouse Museum and they happened to have an event going on, which was very nice. They had ice cream cones for 5 cents and inside a woman was making ice cream the old fashioned way and had visitors helping. The items inside the Schoolhouse were very interesting and it was done very well to get a sense of what it must have been like there back in the time it was used. I recommend it :-)

My husband and I along with our daughters, aged 3 and 5 stopped to visit the little white school house on the afternoon of July 30th. We walked into the one room school house and had approximately 2 minutes to view all of the interesting antiques and artifacts before leaving with a scared and crying child.My daughter is beginning school this September and shortly after we walked in she took a seat in one of the desks and I mentioned as a joke to her that maybe we should send her to school there in the fall. The young man working there said, "No I don't think you would want to come to school here".... In a very disturbing voice. He then proceeded across the room and picked up a leather strap, asking my daughter (who is quite shy around strangers and was obviously uncomfortable with his tone) if she knew what it was, once again with a disturbing tone. When she didn't answer him he walked over to the desk where my little girls were sitting and slapped the strap not once, but twice on the desk, sending my 3 year old into tears because of fear. I was in shock, and so was my husband!! We picked up our girls and walked out with barely an apology.I don't know what is wrong with this young man, but he should be ashamed of himself and the people who are in charge of this facility should seriously reconsider their hiring practices.I wouldn't recommend this museum to anybody travelling with children, and to be honest as an adult I wouldn't return because this young man was so disturbing. My recommendation.....find another museum to visit and enjoy your time rather than having to spend your time consoling your children because of someone's ignorance!

Well presented, the curator could answer any questions you might have about the one room school houses, easy to find, was good for the kids and as far as museums go, it is just the right size to take children to because it is not too large and your visit can be complete in a half hour to hour easily! it gives the children something to think about when it comes to time, technology and teaching.
