Excellent family day activity. We travelled from Bridgewater (2 1/2 hr) to try a different option than the closer Ski Martock (near Windsor). Higher hills and more trail selection makes Wentworth a better option in my opinion and our kids had an excellent time. Seemed less busy even for a perfect Saturday afternoon as we didn't wait long for the lifts (maybe 15 min at peak). The lodge area is pretty basic as others have noted with expensive food. The staff, however, were great in all areas from the equipment rental lodge, to the food lodge areas, to the lift operators/line directors. Music was blasting and everyone was having a great time. The clothing storage seems a little sparse so don't bring anything expensive to leave out laying around. High recommendation
I drove from Halifax (1 1/2hrs) and it was well worth the drive. The weather was perfect today and the hill in excellent shape. All open runs were groomed and the wait time to get back up was minimal and well organized. The lodge is standard (nothing fancy) but if you need anything it's there. My only complaint is that the food is expensive and run-of-the-mill (pack a good lunch and enjoy).
Excellent conditions this year. Lot's of space in the lodge for gear. PACK A LUNCH!! I was astounded at the prices in the cafeteria ($5 for a small fry) Lot's of nice wide runs. May have to skate along the slower portions of the green trails. Not much else in "town". Nice ski shop on site with essentials but pricey.
Second time I have been here in two weeks. Family loved the hill. Mostly green and blue runs, but the kids were able to do it easily. Trails in the woods are narrow, but twisty makes them fun. Weekends very busy, only one lift. They also have T-bars. Lots of off trail skiing, and terrain park. Prices are equal or similar to other hills in the maritimes. Worth-a visit.
There is a lot of snow at Wentworth this year and this makes for some terrific runs. The weekends are hectic with big crowds but the weekdays are a better bet. Ski right on the lift:) The staff are very friendly and helpful. The only down-side is the quality, and therefore the prices, of the food served at Wentworth. The food is generally very poor... even the sandwiches and wraps. Your best bet is the chili or soup. I had a club sandwich yesterday for $8.50 and it was made with 2 very thin slices of pressed (rolled) turkey. YUK!! However the person who made it was terrific:)
We visited yesterday when conditions were perfect. I was a little worried as lessons are allocated on a first come first serve basis and did not want two disappointed little boys! However, all went perfectly, staff were incredibly helpful setting us up with rented gear and the private lessons went really well! All staff were great, really cheerful and polite! The magic carpet chair lift was great for us as new starters! Really thoroughly recommend this place!
It is a great hill with good staff. Lots of steep runs and open boundary to boundary for the thrill seekers who like being in the trees. And a generous amount of green and blue runs to cruise on too. We were here on Feb 1 2015, the conditions were good with nice fluffy fresh snow. I rate it high for the terrain and the grooming and snowmaking. Off the hill is where this place falls a bit short. The lodge was packed at lunch with people taking up full tables with their cooler bags and gear. Do four people need a full table that sits 12 all to themselves? If you need to eat here I recommend you stay away from their canteen food. Spamburgers and pre-made gross pizza complete with "pepperbologaroni" slices on top. I don't mind being trapped somewhere and having to pay $60 to feed 4 of us a fast food lunch. But I certainly do when the quality of the food is that lousy; I feel ripped off. A simple quality improvement would do wonders. Cheap ingredients ruin what could be a nice meal. Almost all of our food ended up in the compost bin. When two hungry adolescents won't eat anything after being outside snowboarding all morning in -11C, there is something wrong the food. Take a lunch and eat it outside on the hill as a picnic. You'll be glad you did. I recommend the Sun Bowl off of chickadee.
This was a great little field, and very cheap!! Quality gear for hire, but ring ahead and find out if a school trip is coming in (our mistake!)Ski instructor was very good with me and my brother who were a little uneasy having not skied for years. Lovely fluffy snow. Not Whistler or Banff but bloody good for NS!
I was very impressed by the cleanliness and the continuing clean all day at this resort. For as many people as go through this place they take great care in up keep. The fast food could take some improvement in quality and pricing though. Very expensive.
We love this hill. The staff are friendly, the instructors are great and there is a lot of varied terrain for all levels of skiers. There is always something go on and the apres ski is almost as good as the ski itself! This is definitely the best place to ski in Nova Scotia.
Located half hour north of Truro Nova Scotia. A simple short pleasant ride threw the mouintains. The vertical on this mountain is over 800 feet and has a few bush, long gradual trails, and bunny hills for beginners. All trails other then the bunny trail end up at a pretty drastic vertical to get to the bottom. If you consider your self an expert.... try this mountain ( they did hold the Canada Winter Games at this location in 2011). Staff was great, food was ok, building / challet modern. Only one place to have a bite and a few drinks. One main ski lift and a t-bar but the one main lift moves people fast..You will be surprised how far of a trip it is to get to the summit. We stayed at the Super 8 in truro, a new Hotel in a easy access location from the highway, movie theater next door and lots of places to eat or drink within walking distance. It has a indoor pool with water slide and breakfast. There are hotels closer to the Skiing I would rate as 5 /10 the super 8 as a 8/10 maybe thats why they call it the super 8. Only caution I would give is ask if any hockey teams are staying there, they are loud and hungry and you might end up getting a smoking room, god forbid the hotel staff give a hockey family a smoking room. they save those rooms for expedia or hotwire customers. We arrived on thursday, a day before the hockey clan. the front desk clerk ( dianne) was trying to tell me that I was aware that we were getting a smoking rooms. When I told her that I spoke with Lori days before arrival and confirmed our reservations, Dianne said we don't have a Lori working here. so you must be talking to another hotel. So much for the CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. I would stay at this hotel again no problem, but next time I would get a email confrmation from LAURA and cc dianne so there is no BS as far as rooms go, I don't smoke and my children shouldn't have to sleep in a smoking room because they don't play hockey.
