Just before hitting Neils Harbour to the north, we came by Black Brook Beach. We noticed from the road the waves were large and pounding on the stacks of rocks. We parked at the lot and in front of us was a rocky beach with strong waves pounding it. What was unique to me was the waves would come in and as the water receded, it would cause the little pebbles on the beach to move in unison and you get this awesome sound. You can bbq in front of the beach. We saw a young couple doing this while witnessing the waves hitting the rocks.
If it was this nice in the fall I would LOVE to come back in the summer! Nice sandy beach, warm water!
Amazing beach with white sand. Depending on the tides, you will have two beaches to choose from, one on the ocean and one closer to the bridge right on the brook where the water is moderately deep and kids can play without fear of being whisked away by currents. To the left is a waterfall and high cliff where some brave souls dive. Amazing beach, bathrooms on site.
Not only do you get a gorgeous rocky/sand beach but the waterfall is breathtaking. We stopped to do a shoot for a cross country video and it was easily one of the highlights of the video. Perfect place for a photoshoot. You can find our video on youtube, "Canada's endless Beauty"
Black Brook Beach is perhaps one of the worlds most beautiful beaches. I must admit that I am partial to Cape Breton and have travelled to the Highlands National Park many times over the past ten years. However every summer I must visit this gem of a beach. This is about one and half hour drive from our wee cabin near Baddeck( could be a little less if we didn't stop to stock up on yummy treats for our beach pic nic). This is the only beach I have gone to in Cape Breton where I can swim in the salty sea and then rinse off in a fresh water waterfall. The experience is exhillerating to say the least. You can not see the waterfall from the main parking lot, or beach area but if you explore a little you will find it. The beach is never crowed, compared to the beaches in Massachusetts and your four legged companion (our dog Myles a yellow lab) can also go for a swim and relax on the beach as well. I love all of the rounded stones, and the raw beauty of this place. The water is a comfortable temp in July and August but the sea can whip up especially in a heavy storm as evidenced by the chunks of drift wood, found strewn up on the beach especially in early spring.
Black Brook Beach (Ruisseau Black), located along the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia, should be included on the list of exotic, must experience beaches of the world. With the backdrop of the stunning Cape Breton Highlands, this hidden treasure provides a tranquil sensory delight. The sun-drenched wrap-around beach, beautiful cascading waterfall, and refreshing ocean swim on a warm summer day was a highlight of our motorcycle trip. I would make the 2000 mile trip just for this beach.
Fabulous area to enjoy the beach, park or picnic area. Large parking facilities, clean washroom area, children's play area and hiking trails all in one area! Plan to spend a minimum of 2 hours in this area. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the beach view from one of the picnic tables. A perfect spot to stop and breathe deep for a while.
At least it used to be a secret. When we went 40 and 20 years ago it was empty. This time it was full, but there is plenty of parking. Facilities: washrooms and changing, places to cook, great hikes from the beach. Beach is round rocks (bigger than softball, smaller than basketball) that have been moved from the ocean's edge so their is nice sand into the water. Water is cool, but was full of people. Great rivers coming into the beach at both ends: one calm and looked good to swim in the other a waterfall.
A very nice beach with some nice views. There was only 1 other couple there when we were there.. There is a waterfall at the left end of the beach. Water was warm.
The Atlantic Coast trail which goes up and over Black Brook cove is breath takingly beautiful! Take each side trail and pause to enjoy all the sea and mountain vistas. You can make this hike longer if you are willing to pick your way across a cobble beach to continue your hike. What an amazing place!
If you like boogy boarding or just jumping the waves then this is the beach for you. Hours of fun and warm water to boot!
This is a beach for families. The sea is shallow and therefore warm and safe for children. If you want to relax go to a different beach.
This lovely beach and green area is a great place for body surfing waves...be very careful of the undertow...the Brook section is a great place for children and adults to play in the brook as it flows out to the waves of the Ocean...on this side of the beach the waves are not as large and there is no undertow. This is a great place to Picnic and there are outdoor fireplaces to cook. There is also a cooking hut with tables and there is a swing set and sliding boards.
Such good waves and scenery, great sand and swimming water. Although there was a mysterious sulfur waterfall abour 50 yards away — whats going on there?
I enjoyed the high waves and enjoyed a swim while I was there. There were alot of families there. This was a busy beach when I was there.
