I arrived in St. John's for the mu$ic fe$tival, great bands, plenty of drinks flowing, revelers all over the place. I preferred my afternoon visit to traditional pubs.
George street is a fantastic place to eat in the day time and early eveningsA great place to go for drinks, there's something for everyone of all ages.Strongly advise only eating the pizza or street meat (hot dogs) while seriously intoxicated.
If you really want to experience the night life of St. John's George Street is the place. You can find any kind of bar you could want. From traditional Irish style taverns with live music to up scale dance clubs and blues bars. If you really want to get a feel for the city and see some great local bands it's the place to go.
George St. reminds me of New Orleans French Quarter, except George St. is just one street.I enjoy strolling down in the daytime on a nice summer day, Thursday-Sat nights different story. My partying days are long gone, its not for me. A tourist may enjoy the most bars per square inch on one small street. the RNC have a good presence downtown as well as CCTV cameras. Not recommended for small children at night, as it is a bar scene.
Always lots of fun to sit on one of the decks on a lovely sunny day, enjoying drinks with friends. Gotta love it!!
If you like pubs, this is the place. Unless my recollection is incorrect, I believe this is the most densly populated street with pubs either in North America or the world. At any rate, there are tons of them, with both inside and outside seating. As mentioned, this street is a party waiting to happen.
There is something on George Street for everyone of all ages (greater than age 19). Impossible to see all the bars in less than a week. Street performers, street vendors, and restaurants. Dance clubs, karaoke, dive bars and irish pubs. Legitimately something for everyone. If you aren't having a good time in one place, easy, get up and go to another! Or another... or another. Only issue could be that 3-4 AM rush where taxi's are far and few between. You'll always meet a friendly face. George street fest is always a little over crowded but a great experience nonetheless!
Short historic street with many pubs and eateries and music abounding. The hub of the St. John's night life. Lots of local top notch performers.
Cheap drinks every night at one bar or another. I’m not sure how they get away with it but you must take advantage of it if your visiting St.johns. Lot’s of great little pubs to check with some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.
I was told it basically shut down in winter. If that was shut down I'd hate to be there for meltdown. Loads of friendly people everywhere. Lots of bars, lots of music, I felt very comfortable.
This was an evening to remember. Even as seniors it was fun and easy to get around. It was a Friday night in July and warm so it was all "good" Some bars offered specials and it would be well advertised outside each pub or restaurant. We found it to be a very relaxing upbeat evening.
For those who like pubs, loud music, drunk people. Not my style : 5 minutes was too long!George street is situated in the Old St-John's and that too is obvious!
This is a party street, it is lined with bars. A lot of the bars are Irish themed. I noticed a lot of live music and drink specials. If you are looking to enjoy a few drinks and some folk music this is a must see street. Also at the end of the street there are two strip clubs if you are into that.
Quite the experience. Wall to wall people while the Wallflowers were playing. Lot's of activities on the street as it was blocked off to traffic. Lots of pubs that served great food and had local entertainment. Gotta love the locals, they sure are a friendly bunch!!
George Street is the place to go in St. John for a fun time. A bevy of bars and a lot of down home Newfie entertainment. The Newfie hospitality is prevalent throughout, the food is decent and the bar prices are reasonable. Jam sessions Sunday afternoon at O'Reilly's are a must goto and are most enjoyable.
