Just went for the hockey game.Great game we won. Lots of room. There is Booster Juice on the second floor, on the main is a snack counter where you can buy burgers, fries, hot dogs etc.You can not get a wheel chair up to the bleachers.
This building is multi purpose and well laid out. The walking track and speed skating are excellent additions to the standard cookie cutter arena's that most communities have. The 2 back to back ice surfaces can cause some confusion for players on the ice and the bleachers could be expanded. This building has been used since opening for the trade show in the spring and its perfect. Its a modern building with so much to do for families.
I was at the Pomeroy Sports Center for Canada Cup as I was assigned to capture photos by one of my friends. They have made some improvements since my last visit. What is new is the electronic timing (they always had it) but now the timing appears on monitors around the facility on the Oval level. Another neat addition are "Photographer" designated areas for photographers to capture great shots. They have also introduced electronic lap counters (instead of using cards, it's a digital lap counter. The meeting room is large for the officials (starters, lap counters, timers, even photographers) The onsite Booster Juice makes a great smoothie to get back into the action without having to go very far. There are some restaurants close by. Safeway has a sandwich bar, Starbucks. Tim Hortons etc. I didn't leave the facility as it was an extremely cold weekend (-30 etc) Will be back again for my next competition
A must visit...3 floors, lower devoted to hockey and weight rooms and high school classrooms, middle floor devoted to 400m ice oval, top floor 350m walking track. More communities should have these. Ft St John population...20,000 Facility simply amazing!
I spent 2 days at the Pomeroy Sport Center attending a skating camp. The facility houses a indoor walking track, a 400m Olympic sized Long Track Speedskating Oval. The main level houses the 2 indoor hockey rinks a school & Pacific Sport Training Center complete with a gym and a hardwood class room along with a windgate training roomThe facility is easy laid out at the Main Entrance with a giant screen telling you where each department is. There are also several meeting rooms.
Very Friendly walking track where you can walk or run at no charge. Skating on the indoor oval is what I enjoy with lots of room to speed around the oval. There is also 2 skating rinks where hockey is usually taking place. There is an elevator up to walking track as well as stairs. There is a booster juice cafe' for refreshments and light food..
Excellent sports centre ... a model for todays multi use buildings. Dual hockey rinks on the main floor with an ice skating oval above on the perimeter of the building. Above that, an all season walking track... great for inclement weather!! Walk in comfort all winter. The building also houses a school, administration offices, a concession and will soon be home to the visitors centre. Great location in close proximity to the leisure pool and shopping.
Travelling the Alaska Highway stop and experience one of the premier sports facilities in northern BC. The centre house 2 Olympic size hockey rinks, a speed skating oval, an indoor walking/running track, a sports training centre and a High School academy.
This amazing sports complex which opened in 2010 has been home to several hockey tournements, speedskating championships and more. I attended the 2013 BC Long Track Championships in this fabulous facility. On the first level they have 2 NHL sized hockey rinks; suitable for fitting for Short Track Speedskating. On the 2nd Level is the Long Track Oval, where I spent most of my time. On 3rd level is a suspended Indoor Walking Track. The facilty has food/drink vendors on the first level with the consession and on the 2nd with Booster Juice. The facility boasts some of the more interesting facts. The original Fort St. John Elks Speedskating Club Outdoor Oval was on that exact location as well as. This facility is the best oppertunity to see state of the art infrastructure in Fort St. John BC
Went to the annual trade show as an exhibitor. Super facility, although the bathrooms could have had a bit more attention during the event.
I only use the walking track facility and only in the winter months but a 1st class place to walk in the winter months
The walking track is a great way to keep fit in our cold winter months up here in Fort St. John. When walking on the track you will often see your neighbours there. The price is reasonable and it is a clean and safe facility.
This facility is amazing - two hockey rinks, speed skating oval and a walking track overlooking it all that is free to use. Great facility - particularly in the winter for walking when it is cold out.
Great facility that offers state of the art equipment and activities for everyone to take part in.
The world class center has a long track oval which is well maintained all season long (July to April)
