If you are a train fanatic like my husband this will thrill if like me you just quite like going on trains it is not quite so awe inspiring! Several old trains and rolling stock to look at and a good way to spend an hour or so.

Great adventure, once there , you have to take that train . Well made, scenic and a bit of adventure comes with it !

Well organized by local people who really care about making a difference in their community on an ongoing basis.

Sorry to report the boiler in the steam engine is under repair and the railway is NOT RUNNING these days. Very disappointing as we used to take all our visitors on it. We hear it's due back on the tracks next summer - if they can raise enough repair money ???

If you were planning on including this attraction to your vacation plans you are out of luck. The train has been shut down due to maintenance reasons and will not be running at all this season. They are hoping to have it going sometime in 2014.

It was the especially unique as Santa Claus visited each & every car, seeing all the lights in that area was pretty special.

For many years the 2411 engine sat in Riverside Park. Now it has been lovingly rebuilt by an army of volunteers. Open and closed cars have been added. Family-friendly specials include the adjacent Keg Restaurant, or Hallowe'en and Christmas events.

We enjoyed an excellent show and entertainment by the volunteers of the Kamloops Heritage Steam Railway who provided a spooky train ride! Lots of fun!

We spent an enjoyable Friday evening in the late summer taking a ride on Kamloops Heritage steam train. Although our departure was delayed due to the arrival of the Rocky Mountaineer scenic train, that in itself was interesting to watch. Local volunteers riding horses greeted the passengers as they disembarked from the Rocky Mountaineer. Several people in period costumes mingled with those of us waiting to ride the steam train. Once aboard, we were able to move through the open and closed cars to the back of the train where we enjoyed views from the caboose. The hour long train ride was fun and we got to experience a "hostage taking" with lots of action from the robbers on horseback! Views of the historic St. Joseph's Church, the river and the lights of the city added to the enjoyment of the trip. Now we plan to ride on the Spirit of Christmas train in December. Remember to buy your tickets ahead of time for these train rides.

We didn't have a reservation and the ride was sold out. thought we'd missed our chance, but a lady had two extra tickets, which she sold us. The ride thru the countryside in an open air car with the Steam Engine puffing away, so nostalgic. then the HOLD-UP. Train robbers on horseback took my husband hostage. Lots of laughs. A great time was had by all.

I was pretty excited to take a trip on the KHR with some friends from out of town. A local theatre company had partnered to make this a seasonal holiday theatrical extravaganza. The theatrical part was a bust: a hodgepodge of characters (Scrooge, Santa Claus, elves, characters from the Nutcracker, and other often unrecognizeable and vaguely seasonal types) wandered by our seats, muttering unintelligible phrases... There was apparently some sort of plot we were expected to follow, but it was unclear to the lot of us, and even the 4-year-old in our party wasn't much diverted until some of the costumed folks started dishing out candy and cookies. The train ride itself was pretty slow and pretty short; it probably would be much more entertaining in the daytime, with a view of the area, and without the distraction of the half-cooked dramatics.

This was booked through the hotel we stayed at, The Country View and we got a discounted rate. Kids enjoyed every bit of it and with the excellent weather we could not ask for more. Highly recommend.

In debating whether to stop in Kamloops or Kelowna on a two-week trip through the B.C. Rockies in late July and early August, I chose Kamloops primarily because of this attraction, as I am somewhat of a railway buff. The engine is beautifully restored -- some people put in a lot of time, money and sweat to make that happen. The open-air cars are nice, as well, and all of the people working the train were polite and friendly. The Kamloops station also is very nicely restored. The trip itself was, for me, somewhat disappointing. Based on what I had read on the Web site, I thought it would be about an hour ride. We definitely were gone for an hour, but spent about a third of that time waiting for a freight train. (However, the Web site does mention the possibility of such delays because of the heavy freight use of that particular area, so it is fully and properly disclosed.) Then, we backed up all the way back to Kamloops -- same scenery, just in reverse (literally in reverse). As for the train robbery part, the kids probably would get a kick out of that.Railroad fans no doubt would love getting a look at that 2141 engine, as I certainly did. Whether it's worth spending the $15 to $18 (adult) for the ride ... I'll leave that entirely up to you.

A must see if you have kids that like trains. My kids love trains so this was a hoot for them. Nice place to take photos
