There is really no trail to follow with marked signage. Which makes a little confusing because the columns are not very visible from the primitive roads. I would suggest walking from the bottom paved parking to the top. If you drive find a good place to park and then walk. The primitive road that will get you close. Is extremely rough even with a 4x4 you risk damage to your vehicle. I have traveled the road several times. Last year it was just about impassible. I have met several people at the top...they couldn't find the columns. I really don't think you can get lost in the area. But, be sure to have water with you. The Columns are well worth the time to visit amazing rock formations. Take water and lunch and enjoy the area. Maybe ask someone for directions before trying to locate on your own.

Columns are quite unique when you reach the bottom and look up but, if you are up for a hike to go around and climb on top of the columns, you will be richly rewarded with a beautiful view of the entire valley.
