This place is so amazing i decided to get married at the top and snowboard down!! Very clean resort. The staff are excellent here and very smart they work on getting you the best deals!!!

Kicking Horse offers some very challenging terrain. It attracts serious skiers from all over the world some of whom stay for months. It is friendly, professional and relaxed. The lift system, which includes a high speed gondola non stop lift to the top of the hill, can lift the entire bed capacity of the resort in well under aour means no queues during the week and short queues at the weekend. If this sounds a bit too serious the Ski School is amongst the best in the world with inspired analysis and advice. There is a special focus on children who are made to feel very special, as one nervous novice was ushered through the ski school preference line (an entirely unnecessary provison at KH as there are rarely queues too be jumped) the Instructor was heard to say, thsi line is reserved just for princesses.

This resort has the best collection of steep terrain I have found anywhere. Great chutes and steep walls. We had "the worst February in 40 years" to deal with, but still had fun. Intermediates and beginners would need better snow to have fun.

P1 and P2. The chutes in all of the lovely bowls. Very nice people running the place. The restaurant on top is elegant and fine dining, but happy to have you in for a latte or a beer! You gotta go!

Not the resort's fault -- all of British Columbia is hurting for snow. Nice resort with interesting runs -- if Mother Nature cooperates with the snow.

But needs to have a think about the lifting system and layout as it spoils an otherwise first class resort.Sure the locals will whinge that extra lifts will make it too easy to access their freshies, but its the visitors who pay the bills and you gotta cater to us if you want us to come back. You also have to stay up int he resort as Golden is not much chop and a bit furhter away that it looks.Apart from this it is a must ski resort for any keen skier or boarder.

Kicking Horse is an amazing resort tucked away in a sleepy town! A very well hidden little gem- in my opinion! At kicking Horse, for a snowboarding, you are getting the chance to drop in on some amazing powder filled double diamond off-piste runs! Weather and snow permitting of coarse! We had two days of great visibility and two days of low visibility but 10cm plus of fresh snow with it! Small lift lines, even on powder days, and a very well set out Mountain (even with the few lifts it has) made us fall in love with this Resort! You wont find any board parks here, but what you will find is great terrain to enhance your steep powder riding skills! Kicking Horse challenged me, and I walked away a stronger snowboarder! If I was a learner snowboarder/skier, I would probably give this mountain a miss and wait a year or two until my skills were stronger to get the most out of this mountain! If you are coming to Canada to ride- Kicking Horse should be one of your top priorities!

Another stop on a BC bike road trip with friends. Definitely the hardest and most relentless runs we encountered. Some great trails but some were let down by a few features which just weren't quite finished. For example a run had a series of jumps where carrying the same speed the first jump you made fine, the second came up just a bit short and the third you get sent miles clear of the landing.Take lots of innertubes, one of the chaps in the group must have spent more time fixing punctures than riding.Well worth a stop though, but I personally preferred the other more flowy trailed resorts.

Lovely little resort but would attract more visitors if the terrain had better lift service. With mainly advanced intermediate and black runs this is not a beginners resort. Unfortunately the resort has no shuttle service from Golden and the local taxi service is very expensive ($50) one way. The café/grills are fabulous and are well priced.

Since KH is striving to be a world-class resort, it needs to act like it and have better lift-served terrain. One long gondola (why not a mid-station??) and one slow Quad (where's the Express?) do not a big mtn make. I would concur w/ others' comments - weekend lines appear unavoidable. I don't blame KH for the February 2015 drought / spring skiing conditions, but having to go all the way to the base if you want to ski anything other than short side runs b4 hitting the Green-way cruiser back to the lift or gondi, is just not my thing...since the slush/bare spots @ the bottom made for a unpleasant experience. As this mtn was updated around 2000 (previously owned/operated by the town of Golden and known as Whitetooth ski area) when $$ was still flowing b4 the Great Recession, I'm unclear where the profits were spent? If you want to hike, then this may be your mtn. of choice....but not in my repertoire, so can't comment on whether it's worth it.The base area has your normal resort amenities, but even on a Friday the lodge was mostly filled up during lunch - seemed small. Plan on taking a break up top or b4/after the noon rush to find a seat.Golden was a nice little town....but we arrived late/left early so no informative opinions about it.But it would be a good central location if your budget limits your on-mountain lodging options. Revie is <2 hours (given good driving conditions), LL an hour, and KH is 15 minutes away, so good options abound.Wd

My husband and I love skiing here. Great terrain for intermediate/advanced/experts. Only drawback is the ski out to base if you choose a side bowl which brings it down to four stars. Another lift would be nice but of course would lead to more traffic/skied out snow. Definitely returning to Kicking Horse.

We arrived and it was snowing so fresh powder on day 1 was pretty amazing. Our 9 days at Kicking Horse were great with plenty of variety to keep us occupied. Spent a lot of time on the Staircase to Heaven chair as this meant we could stay high. The snow cover on the lower section of the mountain was not great. While the Mountain Host was great - they are very limited on where they are allowed to take you which is disappointing. We ended up paying for our teenagers to have a lesson just so they could have an experienced guide take them on the mountain. If you do visit - make sure you stop for lunch at the Heaven's Door Yurt - best food on the mountain and great staff too!

Fantastic couloirs, steep runs, friendly. Staff Not busy. Lots of back country could do with another lift. Seems to hold the snow when elsewhere doesn't .

Steep & deep in the winter & beautiful ridge line hiking in the summer. When it dumps snow, it's the driest fluffiest snow I've ever experienced. Only one gondi to the top so if you wanna get to the good stuff sometimes hiking is required but makes for a rad ride because beginners or those that don't know the mountain won't go there. Mid week riding is wonderful, very quiet & no line ups. Weekends tend to be busy with Alberta weekend warriors out there. Summer is stunning, the wildlife & plant life are abundant & the views up at the top are endless mountain peaks. Eagle's Eye Restaurant is a beautiful place to dine at 7077 feet. Don't forget to stop by the Grizzly Bear Refuge to get the opportunity to see a Boo the Grizzly Bear in a very natural setting. Boasting 20 acres for a single male bear makes it the world's largest enclosure with natural pools, streams, abundant trees & ground squirrels running about. Stay for the educational tour & learn all about Boo. Dispelling bear myths, bear biology, food & reproduction are all part of the education, creating awareness for this blue listed specie & teaching the importance of such an animal in an ecosystem. Bring the whole family!

Sure, when the snow is good it must be fantastic. The terrain at the top is steep, and they let you ski places many other resorts would keep closed - narrow gulches, cornices, etc. But the chances you are going to suffer through at least 1/2 of the mountain are pretty high, with a huge vertical, and a very low base location: if you want to ski the top part of 2/3 of the mountain, you have to go all the way down, and it will likely involve shear ice, slush, bare patches, and other assorted fun. They seem to have made a strategic decision not to build another lift, so 1 gondola, and 1 slow chair serve the upper part of a huge mountain. On busy weekends, the lines can be 30 minutes. With both Revelstoke and Sunshine Village, absolutely world-class, less than 2 hrs away, I am not sure what makes people come back to this one. Local skiers told us there are more lifts envisioned in their 30-year development plan. So we might be back then.
