We were staying at Lillooet Lake and drove up to Joffre Lakes to hike to the top lake. 1st time on showshoes and the track was iced up in some places which made it hard work but the reward was worth it. The falls were amazing and the view at the top lake was fantastic!!
trail is hard packed and very icy, dangerously so. Need to have some type of traction aide for your boots.
Hands down one of the best hikes in the corridor. A must do but wear the right shoes for hiking. The upper lake is amazing and the new waterfall is unreal.
We love to hike here - this time it was snowy and we couldn't do the full loop but it's just divinely beautiful. If heaven exists it looks like this.
The most beautiful place I have ever seen in my life, but come to prepare for a long and hard hiking. However, the view and the place lacks any effort, just three amazing turquoise lakes. I felt like I was in paradise.
We hiked to the Upper Lake and it took us about 1 hour to get there and about 50 minutes to get back. We didn't get to campground but made it to the rocky area before the campground and were able to view the lake from there. The lakes are a beautiful turquoise colour and it was an amazing hike. I would definitely recommend it to young and old!
One of the most beautiful places on earth. Go all the way to the top-absolutely awesome. I still cannot believe how gorgeous it was. It's very steep in a couple areas if going to the top. Worth every bit of the effort. Gorgeous.
These lakes are amazing and I am at loss of words to decribe its beauty. The hike is worth the effort. We were a group of friends that hiked tothe first lake and left due to time constraint. Those who did the second and the third lake were at awe. May be next time. Take your cameras, those will be picture perfect moments.
Took us two oldies with no experience about 90 minutes to climb to middle lake but it was so worth it.Good boots/shoes highly recommended.
This is a 'must see attraction' if you're in the area. The view of the lakes is quite remarkable and an extremely enjoyable day walk.
One really steep grade but otherwise not too challenging. Three Carribbean blue lakes with glaciers in the backdrop seem almost unreal. A nice, very cold swim if you're into it! The ascent has some beautiful open views and rushing streams with places to drink water along the trail. Very popular on a nice day so don't expect to have the trail to yourself!
One of the BEST hikes in BC, the hike isn't too hard (easier than the Chief), it's longer but much more enjoyable. The 3 lakes are absolutely incredible, the 3rd one being the most amazing. The colour of the lakes are indescribable. If you have more time, you can even go right up next to the glacier!
Exceptional mountain scenery.A very steep climb for the first third of the trail. There are few switch backs so the grade is STEEP I would make a guess and say 10 - 15 %.The views of the glacial blue/green lakes are breathtaking.Well worth the effort to hike the trail. We had mixed weather- sun rain, wind more sun so come prepared for anything. We had lunch at the third lake campground.Total hiking time was about 5 hours.
It was clear turquoise water, deep green trees, icy white glacier mountain and the perfect backdrop: glorious powder blue sky! What a perfect way to spend one summer afternoon. The lower lake is 5 minute walk from the parking lot. If you have health condition or bring stroller this is probably where you stop. The view is already spectacular. But otherwise, you should climb at least to middle lake. It's well worth each sweat and hard step. I, hubby and 7 yo daughter decided to climb the 3.5 km hike to the middle lake. If you can find a sturdy stick, bring it. It'll be useful for the hike down. Wear a sturdy shoes. Flip flop or crocs will be too risky. The trail is well maintained. But during our hike, it was a bit slippery due to dry sand/gravel. Some parts were really steep (more than 45 deg), rocky, narrow. I was worry to slip on my way down. But if my 7yo girl can do it without complain, then this mommy should just toughen it up :) the middle lake gives you a closer look to the glacier. The water is also clearer and colder. There was a fallen tree that we walked on leading to the middle of the lake. Awesome! So tempted to just jump into the lake! We completed the hike in over 2.5 hours including a relaxing afternoon snack. Since it was after 5 when we reached middle lake, we decided to forgo the upper lake. We didn't want to walk down in the darkness. So if you plan to hike all 3 lakes, you should plan at least 4 hours of daytime. Bring water and plenty of snacks, you will be glad you do.
We went last Monday, it was a cooling day so there is zero bugs! A very enjoyable hike...http://janiecross.wordpress.com/2014/08/28/joffre-lake-lower-lake/
