It appeared to be a very small jewelry shop from outside. But there was more inside to see, paintings, carvings, pottery etc. And the owner and artist Lydia was very sweet and friendly to take her time to answer our questions and tell the stories about the collections there Loved the carved stick that she did!
We set out to find the Joye Designs Stone Art Gallery that was listed in Trip Advisor. It has since sold and become Little Gypsy's. I love serendipity! This little shop is in an old house located at the end of Queen's Street just north off of St. Johns Street, and could be easily missed. It's worth taking the time to find it. Inside is a wonderful mixture of jewelry, paintings, wood and stone carvings, pottery and so much more. My personal favorites were the Native American cedar carvings and original paintings, and some quirky fantasy pieces... a hand carved wizard head, and a fabulous wood walking stick/staff with a delightful face lovingly hand carved into the handle. The new owner, Lydia, is herself an artist who has created many beautiful pieces, and has the work of other very talented artists on display. She was very friendly and informative as we asked about the art and artists. We typically only buy art after meeting the artist...this is a place where we can do just that. If you love wonderful little shops/galleries where you can see unique and beautiful art, made by local artists, this may be just for you.We really loved Little Gypsy's and would encourage you to take the time to stop in too.
