We found the people to be very helpful and as we are novice kayakers that was much appreciated. The paddling location was perfect and although there can be lots of small boat traffic in the area it was calm and lovely. I am only sorry we had only rented for 2 hours and next time we hope to stay out much longer.
Paddled into huge area of jelly fish amazing to see thousands of them all around us. Great views of beach homes seals .Great value
Carol,Thanks for the kind words, we are always happy to see you and Richard on Wednesday's Plod & Paddle. See you in 2015!
Thank you for the feedback. We are glad your son had a good experience with our kid’s camp. I wanted to respond to your other concerns.Water advisory - At the time of your son's camp the advisory for Old Orchard Park (our only swimming beach that is tested at least three times a week) was satisfactory meaning there are no concerns with swimming or accidental immersion. We did have an advisory the previous week and we made changes to our programming (eliminating the kayak capsize lesson). Despite the advisory being lifted, we continued with the elimination of the capsize lesson for your sons camp as an additional precaution. We take the safety of our campers very seriously and staff are constantly reviewing the weather, Fraser Health water quality reports and general skill level of participants to make sure it is safe prior to going on the water.Waiver - Once on-line registration is completed we send out all forms to review and sign, leaving plenty of time for questions or concerns. You contacted me by email at 10:00pm the day prior to the program start date; I didn't read your email until after your son was registered in store. I am always available during registration intake if any parent/guardian have questions or concerns. Our waiver is provided to us by our insurance company and is a standard wavier for our industry.Cancellation Policy - We have a two week cancellation policy because of the popularity of our camp and the small class sizes. We have a very low participant to instructor ratio (6:1) so for the camp price this is very attractive to parents and we are sold out each week months in advance with wait lists. This is a fair and standard cancellation policy, which is also emailed to each participant after they have registered.
Had a great time exploring the Burrard Inlet with a large group of 18 coworkers who were paired up in double kayaks. Our tour guides Roscoe and Steve taught the groups the basics of Kayaking and then brought us out to have a special experience on the water. Highlights included a visit to the seal nursery on the log booms where we got to see the 3 week old seal pups and then a visit to the Vancouver Aquarium/UBC research center where we had a presentation from a researcher there on their work with the threatened species the Steller Sea lion. The boats were easy to navigate and it made for a fun experience. Our time on the water was special and I would highly recommend it.
I took a Level 1 Kayak class and it was fantastic. These people use humour, experience, and hands-on lessons to give you a great solid grounding in kayaking. Roscoe is an amazing storyteller and motivator - he presents things you need to know in a way you're likely to remember later. Adults are not always the easiest to teach but these guys strike just the right balance to navigate our learning hang-ups. When Roscoe says "go!" you'll want to put in the extra effort not to come in last, but if you are struggling the instructors use tact in helping you so that you don't feel stupid and the rest of the class would only know you were getting a little extra help if they were paying very close attention. I would highly recommend this class and these instructors to anyone.
Well let's just start with I'm new to the paddling world, I'm a big guy, so it is a little more difficult to find activities I enjoy that are comfortable. So I've decided to take the classes first to see if I like it. Well Liz was my instructor for the introduction class, and she was wonderful, supportive and pushing you in a positive way to keep going. I haven't takin the second class yet but in high hopes it's just as amazing. I would like to give a big thank you to Liz for my first ever kayaking experience so much fun.
We went on a hot sunny sunday afternoon for our first SUP lesson. The instructor Curis, was a very friendly, professional and thorough teacher. He made sure beginners (who is naturally afraid of water) are comfortable on the board, but the daredevils in the group (aka my husband who is not afraid of falling into water numerous times) are challenged enough. The scenery is gorgeous. The water is calm and the wind is just right. Highly recommended!!!
Thank you for taking time to acknowledge our extraordinary staff here at Rocky Point Kayak. As we get into the busy season we don't always have time to go the extra mile, but we're glad we were able to go above and beyond for you! Good luck in picking out a new phone!
Very well organized kayak rental place with good instructors if you need lessons. You can bring the whole family, there is a fantastic water playground for the kids, good fish and chips place if you are in ahurry and a very good and elegant restaurant if you want to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Rocky Point Kayak is a great experience. The Burrard Inlet is a great area to check out on a sunny day. Rocky Point Kayak is owned and operated by community members and they take great pride in their business and have added greatly to the community of Port Moody. Creating a wonderful business which is a family focussed activity.
This area is great for all types of boating but particularly Kayaks, where you can enjoy the water and frequently see seals, Bald eagles and Osprey fishing. The rental folks are great, really help to get you settled and going - there are also classes available.
The prices have been raised, but still pretty good (I'd like to see more Groupons). I mainly wanted to write this review because of the odd review "Stranded". I am not sure how the person thought it was the rental company's issue that they did not know how to kayak. That is why you hire a guide and RPK has that service. It seems like this user expected to get that service for free. Yes if you damage something, you should have to pay for it. Anyhoo, I have rented from these guys several times for family and friends that visit with no issue. They give a great little walk thru at the beginning of your voyage and their equipment is sound.
We rented kayaks and got to see a few seals. The service was good and the equipment was clean and fairly new.
We appreciate your feedback and wanted to clarify a couple of points about your review.- I personally contacted you the next morning explaining why we DID NOT charge you. I felt that you understood my position on why we have to charge for rescues.- I personally spoke to your wife when she made the reservation about the challenges of the wind and paddling at the time you booked could be an issue. She said it was the only time her husband could make it. Once you booked I made sure you had the most "family" friendly doubles we have to make your paddle with kids easier. Once you arrived and the wind was strong our staff gave you numerous warnings and suggestions on where to paddle and where not to paddle. In fact, our staff waded into the water to assist you when you went off course a service you neglected to mention. -Damage deposits are necessary and each kayak needs to be looked at to make sure no damage was sustained when it was run aground. -Customers need to know their own physical limits. It is not our job to paddle the kayak for you, if you are going to take young children in a kayak by yourself it is up to you to make sure you are capable to paddle it safely. Taking lessons is a good start, a service we recommend for those new to the sport. I welcome any other concerns you may have and i am available by email or at the shop.
