It was a fun trip out to wonder around the old homestead . Not really that much to see but learning the history was interesting Something to do
This place is fantastic. Hats of to the Huble Family. We love going there on Canada Day! It is a beautiful spot, the staff and fun and knowledgeable, great place for kids to have a run!
This is a great place for wedding and family photos, and especially cool at Canada Day. I loved the store and the gardens. Thanks to the staff who let my son sample the fresh veggies!
This is a great little spot to learn about the history of what it was like for a family living in this area in the gold rush days. The employees are dressed up to really make you feel like you are blasting into the past. There is a murder mystery event happening there soon so if anyone is interested look on their website. It sure sounds like a lot of fun!
This is a superb attraction, 40 km or so north of Prince George on Highway 97. It's right next to the Fraser, with a beautiful old house hewn out of logs, and a general store in which you can have a very basic lunch of burgers, which somehow taste twice as good as it should in the open air. The homestead is staffed by eager young students doing holiday jobs, and you get to wander by the river, and visit the chickens, sheep, and rabbits, as well as learning of the history of the site, and its role in the portage between the Fraser and Summit Lake. There isn't too much here compared with a larger historical attraction like Barkerville, but the place has a magic of its own, and is more than the sum of its parts. It's also a great example of how citizens can get together to preserve heritage, and it's really worth supporting because of that. The general store has a nice gift shop, with some unique merchandise: I cam away with socks knitted partly from the wool of the sheep I'd been feeding fifteen minutes before. Head ten kilometres or so futher north on 97, and you can do a short hike up Teapot Mountain, making in total a full day's excursion from Prince George. Entry is a $5 suggested donation, and worth every penny.
This is actually a pretty cool place that all ages can enjoy! You can do a self-guided tour or have one of the knowledgable staff tour you around - I would definitely suggest you do that. The price of admission is by donation - they suggest $5/person - and that included the guided tour. There's buildings, artifacts, animals ... it gives a real feel for what it might have been like living out there 100 years ago. It's not too far off the highway (a few kilometers), but be warned - the signs are small and you could miss it. We almost did - just saw the sign as we drove past and had to back up to make the turn.Once you park your vehicle there's about a 300m walk to the site - but if you're in a wheelchair they let you drive up to it - offload - and then take the vehicle back to the parking area. Good fun and interesting!
My wife and I re-visited Hubble in June to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. We were married there in June 2012. The setting was perfect - quiet and open with the backdrop of the old buildings. Hubble made for a great post wedding location with helpful staff, games for the kids and great photo ops everywhere!
A very good view into the pioneers of the upper Fraser area. A nice stop if you going through the area in the summer.
I love all the different events all season, Canada day, dogs herding sheep, watermelon eating contest, great place to take visitors.
the opened air and stories that was told plus the black shop places, the table for eating just feel like you our a kid again
This off the beaten track national historic site is park of the golden raven network, they don't charge for entry just ask for donations.First: the staff are all super friendly despite being in period costume which on this hot day must have been roasting! They have plenty to look at and offer guided tours. There's ducks, chickens, award winning rabbits, sheep and this is in addition to the beautiful starlings nesting in the equipment shed. On the road out you will see cows and horses which adds to the delight if you have a toddler on board! You can stop in the trading post and buy vintage candy (reasonably priced, and no taxes!) to keep the kids quiet for the 30 min drive back to Prince George.Only off putting thing was in the main house there were literally a million flies! It was gross and stopped my 11yo enjoying the period features of the house- she commented there must be a body in the attic or something. Awesome afternoon out, plenty of space for small ones to run around (river is fenced off :D ) and enough to keep the pre-teen interested in how good she has it now!
I had my wedding ceremony at Huble a few weeks ago and overall, we were pleased with the experience. We planned on an outdoor ceremony, but it began to rain a few hours before the wedding and the staff was very helpful in moving everything in from outside. The only problem we ran into was the fact that we could not get ahold of them the morning of the wedding. We were trying to call to see if we could get some lights put into the barn that we were using as a back up plan and were unable to contact them after multiple calls. I'm pretty sure we must have had their downtown office number. Other than that, it was a beautiful location and I would recommend their facility for a wedding ceremony or just a little day trip out of town. Cheers!
The Huble Homestead is a fantastic place to spend the day. It was all built up, and is managed by, volunteers. Interpreters dress up in period costumes. The have many events throughout the year. They have a period store (with lovely pickles). It is also a great place for a picnic. Dogs are welcome.
This place is a local tourist attraction and historic site. Often school classes visit here in June when teachers are looking for something to "do with the kids". It's a nice place to visit on a summer day for a picnic or a quiet read by the river.
