Pretty , nice walk to end of ward and watch birds, boaters and have an ice cream cone. On the right day, stay and listen to concert in early evening, all free. Bird watching is amazing.
The longest curved wharf in BC and Canada, overlooking the Salmon Arm Bay. At the end of the wharf are mooring spots for your boat and also for houseboats from Twin Anchors Houseboats during the summer season. From here you can launch your boats and walk around the bay area. The bay area has several walking trails and a nature reserve where you can observe much wildlife (primarily birds, but also lake otters, etc.) It is also at the end of the Marine Park where during the summer evening musical shows are given at WOW (Wednesday on the Wharf). It is a beautiful site and pictures are taken here all the time.
This wharf is beautiful! It's a lovely walk out to the end--and once you get there, you can see some of the houseboats! We enjoyed watching the birds, too. There was a nest up on a high pillar that had some activity. We wished we'd brought our binoculars!
We have only lived here for 8 years, we totally enjoy walking and cycling on the wharf, it is an absolutely beautiful area and the park is a great place for a family picnic..
Lots of different birds in the wet zone under/around the wharf. We saw a heron, King fisher and many ducks on our jaunt.
I often take a 'scope and go birding on the wharf. The bay with its expansive mud flats on either side is in a super location for shorebirds during both spring and fall migration. There are also several river otters which frolic and play around the wharf.
love the view with many beautiful birds, the air is so fresh and view is so charming that i couldn't make me leave there.
A very pleasant walk along the pier, where we saw some type of hawk, a blue heron , swallows just to name a few. We also saw otters playing on one of the boat docks. Bring binoculars if you can there are a few seats to sit on and enjoy the view and one picnic table a few more would be nice. All in all a very pleasant afternoon
Up the lake and down, you can see so far, this walk on the wharf is not to be missed.. The birds ,(grebes) are so much fun to watch as they develop from babies just paddling to the seniors showing off, a delightful walk on the wharf can renew your energy and love of wildlife. there is a store at the end of the wharf to buy ice cream and hot dogs to tempt your appetite, the view is wonderful ENJOY!
Mid October, light jackets, early evening, sun setting and very few people around. A beautiful romantic little walk. We loved it, October was a nice time because the air was crisp but not too chilly.
I can't drive through Salmon Arm without stopping here for a stroll. I'm a bird nut but the whole family loves it here. In May the Western Grebes are doing their courting dances and nesting and it is one of the truly amazing spectacles of nature. These days we usually pass through in August on our way to the Coast (from Calgary). This year we spent the night in Salmon Arm and spent the morning at the pier. The Osprey family was on the nest right next to the pier, and there were lots of shorebirds and Great Blue Herons in the shallows. Saw a family of Pied Billed Grebes, and two Western Grebes were still hanging around. Walk to the end of the pier and have an ice cream. The fellow who runs the place is quite a character and takes wonderful photos of the local birds. We ended up chatting with him for over an hour about at least 10 different diverse subjects, only one of which was birds!
We visited mid-week and it was very quiet in both the small park and on the pier. Plenty of opportunity to watch the ducks and herons fishing in the reeds. At the end of the pier are sea-doo and houseboat rentals, and a small stand where you can buy ice cream. If you can't get one of the half dozen parking spots near the roundabout, the pay parking lot offers 1 hour of free parking but you must remember to get a stub from the almost hidden dispenser as we did see tickets being issued for those who did not display one on their dash. The small park has some tables and chairs and a small colorful garden. Nice for a break.
The view from this area is OK. The best time to go is when the haze is low. The nature trails are short and you may not see much in the way of wild life. But, it is anice walk.
Really enjoyed the walk down this pier. There are tons of different birds and ducks. You really never know what you'll see! The bathrooms at the end are nice and clean as well. Only thing that was a little creepy was all the spiders hanging off the railing later in the evening. yikes!
I set up on one of the tables in the park to do some work and eat lunch. Nice setting to pass an early afternoon, though parking is for maximum of an hour. There are public washroom facilities and pubs are walking distance away, plus the concession on the wharf. While I was there it was nice and sunny but certain tables have trees right by them to keep the shade on the table almost all day - nice when you're trying to read a computer screen.
