enjoyed walking in the park, interesting history, probably better in better weather, needed boots, beautiful views,
Ruckle Park is a must see, we have been there many times and always enjoy the peace & tranquility of this beautiful oceanside park. You can take long or short seaside hikes, wooded hikes or just sit in awe at the beauty of this paradise. Fresh air, oceanside, peace & tranquility.
Beautiful scenery. Wear proper shoes if you want to walk near the water as it can get slippery. Don't be too noisy as you may disturb others enjoying the scenery or the people meditating... there are a few.
Nice Park to spend the day walking and exploring. Multiple trails. Working Heritage Farm was very interesting.
Camping spots are a bit of a walk from the parking lot, but the reward is that you get to camp on the water. We saw Orcas as they swam by!!
I refer to the whole Park, not the Camping Ground. Would give 5* for place and views were it not for the farmer (with attitude!) who has fixed-it with the authorities so that dog-access is severely limited. So I no longer go there ("Good!" I can hear him saying) as the main reason for visiting a Park is to walk the dog. So here I am, financially supporting a Park which I can't use as I would like.(Having said, he has good cause insofar as his flock of sheep, partic'ly in lambing-season, has been adversely impacted by out-of-control dogs owned by ignorant dog-owners, and he loses sheep regularly. My only residual concern is why his sheep aren't fenced-in so as to allow Park visitors to better enjoy the place. The sheep and his cows wander all over.)I get the feeling that, given his druthers, he'd stop *all* tourists at the Park boundary.
walk along the beach or the bluffs and take it all in. Incredible park. Certainly a must see for salt spring.
Great place to take a walk for an afternoon, have picnic lunch or camp overnight. Very clean grounds and bathroom facilities.
This is an amazing park, and Deer are common visitors to camps. Its just too bad there are no showers and town is 30 mins away by car. The Ocean is just too cold, so if you dont mind stinky, this is great.
LOVE LOVE LOVE <3So beautifully pristine.so enchanting...beautiful sunsets on the water.great for kids
scenic views are awesome. great place to camp or just go for a picnic. had my dog on a leash so i let him off to get into the truck and the park ranger was giving me grief about it. all dogs must be on a leash. that sort of thing. a real arrogant jerk.
Peaceful and beautiful, with a gorgeous walk along the bluffs, and if you are lucky the local deer will make an appearance.
Awesome oceanfront provincial park with miles of trails perfect for exploring with the little ones. Walk along the beach (which is rocky and rugged but incredibly fun to explore). Waves come crashing in as the ferries go by with fields, trails and camping all round. Tons if picnic tables along the way - you can easily spend a day here breathing in the fresh air and stunning scenery. Plus it's completely free (except for camping). Drive past main gate and go all the way to the end for parking.
If you have a vehicle while on Salt Spring Island, this is a must-see park. We usually park in the campsite area because the walk to the shore is far more accessible, especially in the winter. The views are fantastic year-round, especially when the ferries sail by. In the fall and winter, visitors are few and the scenery dramatic. I love to walk back to the working farm that is part of the park, operated by the Ruckle family. It is not uncommon to see deer, along with sheep and turkeys raised by the farm. In the spring and fall I frequently hear the unique call of pheasants in the field and last visit I saw a brightly colored male strutting through a fallow field. If you bring small children or the elderly, be aware that this is a rustic park with basic but clean outdoor bathrooms. There are small hills and cliffs down to the sea plus other hazards. Bonus: no charge for parking at this park! See more pictures on my blog: http://literarywanderings.wordpress.com/2014/04/16/my-favorite-park-on-salt-spring-island/
It's a great bike ride from Fulford along quiet winding roads. We loved being able to go for a swim off the rocks at the very southern tip. Gorgeous park, nice to stop along the way at Saltspring Island Cheese Company and Saltspring Bread Co. for some wonderful picnic fare.
