Although the ride is VERY expensive, in my opinion, the views are quite spectacular. Since we were going to dine at the Observatory restaurant, the ride is included in the overall cost of eating. It takes 8 minutes to travel up or down. There is no heat in the gondola so you need to take a jacket, and only a very few seats, It is primarily designed to transport skiers and their equipment. However, the sight of Vancouver all laid out for you in it's full glory is worth the cost, We went up in the daylight and returned after dark so were treated to a double treat. Night time is almost mystical, there are so many twinkling lights. Beautiful in every way.

So, as a general rule we will avoid popular places on weekends or holidays since we cannot stand crowds but since we were in Vancouver during Christmas time we ended up coming to Grouse Mountain. We usually go to Capilano Suspension Bridge but we wanted to do something different this time. Thought the kids would enjoy the gondola ride and we wanted them to be able to play in the snow and go ice skating. We lucked out and found a good parking spot by the entrance and we didn't have to wait too long in line to get tickets and get on the gondola. There is a Starbucks and bathrooms right where you wait by the line which is very convenient. It was packed in the gondola but we were by the glass so the kids could see everything. It is pretty neat to come out and all of a sudden see snow everywhere. They had a gingerbread house exhibit that we went to first and then snowball fights next and then we went to the large outdoor skating pond and waited in line to get skates. They probably need to fix their system at the rink since everyone trying to pay was standing in the same area for getting, exchanging, returning skates. Was all very crowded and confusing. We would probably just bring our own if we went up there again. Anyway, they had fun skating. Especially my 9 year old who would skate and then dive into a snowbank on the side. It was foggy up there that day so not the best visibility but there were a lot of skiers and you can also snowshoe on the trails as well. After we finished skating we were anxious to be on our way. There are places to eat here but it was getting very crowded and chaotic. No wait for the gondola down. Visited the wolf enclosure at the bottom and went to Starbucks.

Handy way to fill up some spare time. We took a box lunch up and enjoyed the views whilst enjoying lunch. We also enjoyed the company of chipmunks which were so entertaining to watch

some people are moaning about the price but when you get to the top and see the views that is instantly forgotten. they really do take your breath away.coming from the uk we just don't get views like this and the price when considered against some attactions in the uk is pretty much a free trip. if you are in Vancouver and are on your first trip to Canada do this trip you wont regret it.actually visited august 2013 but only just getting round to reviewing (sorry)

When we got in the gondola to go up the mountain it was raining. Half way up the rain turned to snow. My teenage daughter had never seen snow before and was delighted. At the top it was snowing and the whole area was covered. In a pen were 'Dancer' and 'Prancer' munching on some hay. There was a frozen ice skating rink where several people were skating ( or attempting to.) Then there was 'Santa's House.' We queued up to visit him. Inside was Santa by a roaring fire and two elves who were taking the photos. After taking off several layers of clothing we arranged ourselves around Santa and had our FREE photo with Santa. Inside the main building were shops, food areas and cameras in the bear cave. they have two bears who are hibernating but at around 11am they get up and stretch before lying down again and going back to sleep. Quite amazing to see. We got to put in our bids on the best gingerbread house from 18 schools around the area. Utterly one COOL day!

The easy way to get to the top of grouse. Not the most cost efficient way though. Views from the top are great.

Whether in winter or summer, or day or night, this a great ride. Great views of Vancouver and area. Take it for a night ski!

The view is spectacular, but the ride so expensive, can't recommend it. Went to attend a friend's birthday gathering in one of the restaurants at the top. When I found out how much they wanted to charge me to ride up, I declined. I felt bad but when I found out 7/15 invited guests had also declined I felt very bad for my friend.

The ride is amazing. The views are fantastic. We travelled up the sky ride the morning after a snowfall and it was just amazing. It's quiet expensive to ride to the top if you are not skiing and only going up to see the views. But it is the best way to go. If you are staying in downtown Vancouver you can take the Seabus to Lonsdale Quay and then take bus 236 and it goes all the way to the Grouse mountain. Grab a day pass for the buses and sea bus. It's only $9 and you can go everywhere with it.

In September, the weather was sunny & 70+. Skies were clear and was a perfect day to see Grouse Mountain. Paid for the 'ultimate' pkg. Took the tram, then a ski lift to the top. At the top was a wind turbine with observation deck. Took an elevator inside the turbine to the top and had a FANTASTIC view of Vancouver and area. You could see the ships in the harbor, Vancouver and the mountains. Great pics! Worth the $'s.

If you do not want to arrive on top all sweaty and burnt out, this is the way to go. The views from the tram are worth the ride and once on top, stop and enjoy.

A msut do if you are visiting Vancouver, the skyride, weather dependent gives you the best view of Vancouver and area. The ride is fund, quick and the operators provide basic commentary on the way up and down. Lots to see and do up top and activities are dependent upon weather and season. Go prepared to enjoy the trip.

If you every go to Vancouver as a tourist, you should go on this ride. Hoefully on a clear day. We drove up there (can't walk), and lot parking is not cheap, as per Vancouver parking fees go. There is an entry fee but if this is a one time shot for you, it's tollerable. The ride is short but exciting, as you quickly rise in altitude to see city and land alike. When you get to the top, you can get a perspective as to where the local landmarks are located with respect to one another. We free took an hour walking tour with a local guide who was really into the whole ecology of the area, and provided explanations to the 4 in our group. Food is available and a little pricey. On the drive back to Vancouver, there is a free Salmon Hatchery (government run) that you should add to this trip. It is VERY close downstream from Grouse Mountain and well worth investigating, especially if the salmon are running upstream at the time.
