So much riding in so little time! Climbing is for suckers! Definitely visit the bike park! There are trails for new riders and also for experienced riders!
The Whistler Bike Park is where downhill mtn. biking originated at mountain resorts back in the 1990's and has continued to add diversity and premium quality experiences for park riders while at the same time serving as a laboratory where new experiences and trends in the sport are tested.
Undeniably one of the best bike parks to ride in. Came here in December for the break and it was just as great as last year. Just be careful not to go overboard and out-do yourself. I don't mean to sound like a nagging grandpa but this is not the place to try and show off skills you haven't yet mastered.
Grab your bike. Grab your friends then grab your balls cause you're gonna need em. Whistler the town is rather meh but you can crash in your car in lot 5 and swim in the creek to get clean. No need to go into the village at all. Lucid Living baby!
I listened to all the hype before finally deciding I would go and thank god I did. This is the place to ride. Had a blast in every way and would go back any time. I would stay closer to the village next time to be closer tot he restaurants, etc. I would like to see it covered with snow one day, but not if I have to give up a DH trip.
This is the mecca for all things mountain biking, hire yourself a big travel mountain bike, some armour and a full face helmet and have it large on the lifts.
I have mountain biked throughout the Southeast for over 20 years. This was my first and only experience with downhill to date, and it was amazing. I am a fairly aggressive "All Mountain" rider, but this was definitely next level, and a total blast. I managed one black diamond run on Angry Pirate, but mainly rode the blue and green runs. I can see why Whistler is considered a world class downhill park. It was a phenomenal experience, and would highly recommend to any mountain biker to experience at least once. Only advice is to stay within your ability, and hold on!
WMBP is truly exceptional. The design and maintenance of the trail systems ensures quality riding from intermediate to advanced riders. Iconic trails lke Schleyer and ALine are must rides for downhill enthusiasts, and B-line and Crank it Up provide adventurous options for decent riders looking to progress into teh world of flowy berms, tabletops and smaller drops, step ups, step downs, etc.
Having done lots of CC mountain biking over the years I wasn't sure whether to just hire a bike and go for it or get an instructor/guide but now I can highly recommend the second option (Andrew Runciman).By having the guide they teach you technique and break it down into easier manageable chunks, choose the trails that are right for your level and ensure you are safe and having a good time. You can easily book through guest services and the am lesson is better as you can do the morning session as a taster and it's so addictive you will want to carry on in the afternoon.Everyone should come to Whistler and try out some of the worlds best mountain biking!Plus I also nearly managed to persuade my partner to give it a go as in the Summer they do ladies only evening sessions for beginners with loads of freebies and a beer at the end, sounds great!
Boyfriend did half a day and loved every minute of it. Lift & Gondola up and ride down. Ends at the GLC, spectators can sit outside and watch.
Every mountain biking magazine you look at always has pictures of Whistler. That is what inspired us to take our summer vacation there this summer. The bike park did not disappoint. Lift-accessed gravity runs. All the fun without the work. I spent the day with my twin 11 yr olds and had a blast in the Fitzsimmons zone. Very well designed and maintained runs. Wonderful berms for easy turning in tight curves. Lots of bumps, bridges and jumps to keep anyone entertained. Three levels to the mountain. Upper zones for more advanced riders. My husband and 16 yr old son enjoyed the Garbanzo zone. This is not a place to come to learn how to mountain bike. Even the green runs have some technical aspects to them. You need to be comfortable on a bike before attempting this mountain. As a side note: Saw bears all over the ski runs. 2 small black bears spent the entire day GX course enjoying the grass while bikers buzzed right past them. Found out that the company who designed this part is also designing a park in the mountains near us in Southern California. After our experience here, can't wait to see what they come up with.
If riding DH for the first time, get a guide. It's not expensive. They can show you the ropes and help you to become a better rider. It's too dangerous to go without some experience.
Well I went for a lesson and it was amazing. My instructor was called Dylan and he was excellent, it was my first time riding downhill and my last run of the day was down a-line a black diamond trail. I recommend everyone who likes riding bikes to go try it out. :)
Great place to improve your riding. They put a lot of effort into the trails and it shows. It's definitely worth the money.
First time on Downhill bike but so stoked try again!Bike park in Whistler is so much fun, great bike rentals and bars:)
