We had a great visit until it was time to leave. We were heading down one of long escalators. All of a sudden it stopped instantly. Although, we were at the very top of escalator I am glad that we were practically the only four on it. If there were people behind us, they most like would have fallen on top of my family including my two young children. There would have been injuries. Probably, some quite serious ones. I believe one of four teenagers just exiting the escalator pushed the emergency stop button. I saw them chuckle at our response of being completely shocked. I was so concerned that I went to the front desk and reported the incident. The lady was obviously concerned and sent me over to the Security Desk. I approached an older gentleman from Paladin Security and we quickly moved towards the security desk. There were a few other Security Guards including one younger, not so wise, gentleman. The younger kid quickly piped up and stated that they were supposed to stop that quick. The other Security Guards let this young man run with it .I stated that I don't think they are supposed to stop that quickly. I soon realized I was completely wasting my time discussing this with any of them. They were not the least bit interested in what I was saying. I have been employed in the aviation industry in a quality capacity for over 25 years and take the public safety very seriously. These clowns didn't investigate anything. There was zero documentation. They didn't even go to look at the escalator. All they did want to know was for me to point out who it was that pushed the button so they could have a chat with them. I found here on this website that it hasn't been the first time that this has happened. This was documented a few years back:"Great exhibits, my kids loved it, but when we were leaving the escalator abruptly stopped almost sending my 4 kids, myself and my disabled husband down the entire length. We advised David at customer service and he said he would tell security. no report or anything! be careful!"I am disgusted that ZERO root cause investigation, and ZERO corrective action wasn't implemented the first time, and has resulted in at least a second incident, I will be doing more homework and will do my best to ensure I have contacted the the correct people to hopefully prevent an incident like this happening again. In the short term "HANG ON!"Google "Escalator Injuries" it's frightening! We should be able to do better.

The Royal B.C. Museum is well worth visiting while in Victoria. It has history, interest and hands on for kids plus special shows. Also the Imax theatre is a great add on to your visit. Both gift shops are worth a look as well, good local gifts for friends and family at home.

Saw the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibit and thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautiful, clever and artistic shots some of which were very thought provoking.

This is an absolute must for anyone visiting Victoria as a tourist or on vacation. There is few better museums we have been too - and it's only getting better! Costs are fair - but by your tickets at the Visitor Center across the harbor to save a couple $$ per person! Our first visit was 6 years ago - we were highly impressed and spend a good portion of the day here. 6 years later, we took the kids and our parents, and we spend the entire day here again! The First Nations exhibit is by far the pinnacle of the museum with all the artifacts, information, and exhibits available. If you appreciate history, this one is for you!Our next favorite exhibit is the "town." A beautiful mock town setup for one to explore and feel like you have been transported back in time. Loved the silent movie theatre as well!A photography exhibit was being shown this visit as well - I am not one for staring a photos, but these were great. There is so much to see and explore at the Royal BC Museum... We already miss it and want to go back soon. Finally, we visited the IMAX for their Hollywood Feature Film (the 3rd film of the Hobbit) in 3D for my son's birthday request. We had a great experience in this part as well!SIMPLY AWESOME!

I always enjoy going here every time there is a new exhibit. Great history of British Columbia to see. Depending on which exhibit is there it's also very good. Love the Imax theater as well.

I am a museum rat so my bar is high. This is facility is in my top ten although a little heavy on the First Peoples exhibits and needs more about the what has made B.C. so unique as one of the provinces.

To find out everything about this little corner of the West Coast, the First Nation culture and at the same time special exhibits, this museum is worth spending a few hours in it as a local or as a tourist.

The fantastic thing about the BC Royal Museum is the full-sized interactive environments that replicate the historic settings of BC, from onboard a ship that even smells like a musty old ship, to inside a rail station, a coal mine and an early cinema. This museum is expansive inside and there is a lot of information to take in on the history of BC including both Western settlement and "development" and First Nations history. The exhibit detailing the tragically devastating 19th century Small Pox epidemic was heartbreaking. Allow yourself a full day to really take in everything, and skip the IMAX theatre, which has a smaller screen than most and charges through the nose to show you corporate advertisements for Boeing and Lockheed Martin under the guise of science documentary.
