A large beach with good parking and lots of beautiful sand. When the tide is out, you feel that you can walk to the mainland. Whaen the tide comes in over the warm/hot sand it heats the water up deliciously. Perfect beach for families with children of all ages.
This is a great and safe place to be for walks, picnics, a little local wildlife, or just for sitting and looking across the sea to the mountains of British Columbia. When the tide's out, the beach goes on forever, so you won't be tripping over anybody!
fantastic beach area . low tides seem to go out for ever. great trails to walk through trees or along beach.find sand dollars at low tide.
A well kept park full of birds, trees and right on the ocean. Lovely for walking, picnics and camping.
First time on the island and we didn't have a site booked but there wasn't a problem. Great staff and One of the best campgrounds we've ever stayed at, Can't wait to go back!!!
My kids love to come here to turn over rocks and find crabs. The beach goes on forever so its not really appropriate for swimming, but great for kids who like to kick around on a beach and dig.
Perhaps I shouldn't share as I am a local and walk Rathtrevor at least once weekly. A beautiful park with beach and forest trails as well as a wonderful campground. Mostly dog friendly but you must respect the signs and avoid certain areas at certain times of the year.
At low tide it feels like you can go out forever. The small tidal pools are warm, the little ones love to play in. You can fly a kite, soak in the sun or go for a swim. Great picnic grounds too.
Long walks on the beach. Lots of shells and stones to pick up and treasure. Brisk winter day and needed warm coats.
Great place to walk...we have camped there in past ....due to fire restrictions in the summer we were never able to have a campfire but brought those battery operated flicker candles
Great walking trails through forests of Douglas Fir veterans. saw eagles sea lions, harbor seals and many sea birds. great views of the coast mtn range. Great park facilities. There is a secondary entrance to park trails. take road to the west off of the old island hwy about 100 meters from the Englishman River bridge just south of Parksville
You would never think that there would be warm water at the beach in Canada, but there is. Rathtrevor Beach is a hidden gem. The water is very shallow and travels across the warm sand for three miles in its tidal trek. When I visited this beach, I didn't go in the water, being certain that it was cold. The lesson learned was Don't Wait!! Go in as soon as you get there. What a pleasure it was to soak my feet and legs in water that had to be at least 70 degrees F. No one I told about it would believe that I would find tropical water temperatures this far north, but I did. So glad to know this place!!
A most popular place in summer months is equally as beautiful in December. No crowded beaches no multitude of people just peace and solitude. Enjoyed watching the Dolphins frolicking in the surf as well as huge sea lions barking at the sea. Beautiful sunny day and great refreshing walks in this pristine park
I live locally and Rathrevor is a wonderful place to visit in all months/seasons. It's a great place to run/walk/walk dogs/meditate....perhaps especially wonderful after the 'tourist season is over but even during the high season, one can most times find a place with few other people.
Views of the Sunshine Coast across the Straits of Georgia. Wonderful place for picnics and large family or group gatherings with many picnic benches spread along the waters edge. Fabulous bay with gently sloping sandy beach, really safe for swimming and paddling...Simply loved the place and scenic beauty....
