Stopped by after a long day of work and we were very happy we did. Andrea our host served up some awesome samples of the brews available, She was great, giving us the details of each glass we prepared to sample. We had a lot of fun, had some great beers and walked away with a couple bottles full of our favourites, along with a pretzel that had to have been made with the hands of an angel!!!!
I have toured other breweries and by far this is the most fun. Not overly large, so not a ton to see, however, you can tell the staff really love what they are doing and love showing it off. It is amazing how different all the beers taste, all in my opinion were very tasty. Watch for special brews that only last for a short time. Building is in the old part of Powell River, aka 'the Townsite' with other heritage buildings near by (theatre, hotel). Go for a walk and come back and enjoy the beer!
Didn't expect this place to be open when we arrived but found the door open. Lots of great beers to choose from and some really cool t-shirts to take home. Andrea was most friendly and helpful at the counter...went back a second time! How many places can you taste before you buy? Awesome place in the beautiful setting of the old townsite of Powell River.
Worth the stop when in Powell River. Tke a few home with you... The beer is definitely top quality and the folks are super friendly
A tour of the brewery is a definite must....see how it's made, and get a lil history lesson as well.I haven't had a beer of Townsite yet that I didn't like. Awesome brewmaster, beer and staff = one hell of a good product. A stop in at the brewery is a must if you are visiting Powell River.
Townsite Brewing is one of the top breweries in BC and well worth a visit! The Brew Crew are always more than happy to guide you on a tasting journey of their great craft beers! A rare chance to have beers brewed by a Belgian Beer Engineer here in BC!!
I have tried a lot of beer in my life, from around the world, but I never liked any enough to drink again. Townsite Brewery has made me actually Love beer,(well mostly theirs). Each beer is unique and has layers in the flavor like a good wine. From refreshing Suncoast to the banana undertones of Charleston, truly amazing. This is a destination to visit in the craft beer world.
Townsite Brewing recently celebrated its 2nd anniversary and I would say that it has earned it. It has become a fixture in the local economy, and rightly so. It has a beer for everyone. I don't drink beer (ever) and Townsite has beers that I enjoy, especially their Blackberry Beer and the Charleston. I love that they produce seasonal beers. Their tours are informative, but not especially unique. The tasting is the best part. Craft beer is here to stay, and Townsite is as good as it can get.
Great Tour, awesome location. The Employees were energetic and happy and the beer is the best. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something fun to do on a Thursday or Saturday.
I'm sure the brewery tour is awesome....but I've tried 4 of townsite's brews both in the bottle and on tap and they are simply fantastic.I travel a lot and have tried many local breweries over the years but this one is really memorable. To the townsite folks, the zunga and the porter are out of this world.
This brewery in the heart of Powell River's Historic Town site is worth visiting. It is a nice change from the usual tourist "things to do". The building is unique, tours are interesting and the staff are friendly.
visit the old town site, taste the new beer and arrange a tour of the brewery. For $5 you can taste 5 different beers, get a little history of the area.
I am not a beer drinker, but this brewery makes such good stuff, a glass is always pleasant. I have not yet toured the facility, but I hear it's a nice way to spend a couple of ours and very educational. The local liquor vendors and most local restaurants serve the product. Do yourself a favour and try a glass.
All of Powell River is in love with Townsite Brewing. Townsite is a National Historic Site and the beer operation occupies the old Post Office from about a century ago. Not only is it exciting to have a new local industry brewing up excitement in the neighborhood but the beers are very popular. when I dropped in for a tasting, a constant flow of local customers punctuated my experience.Townsite Brewing Inc.--TBI, for short--presently has a canon of four ales (no lagers), plus seasonal beers in small amounts. Zunga, a golden-blonde ale, is quite dry and a little hoppy. I liked it. Tin Hat is a lot hoppier, bitter and pungent. I'm a wine-lover, not a beer drinker, but to my surprise, I liked this one, too.Pow Town, as befits its name, delivers a malty punch and reminds you that you didn't have enough coffee this morning. Wow! I liked this one a lot. Finally, Suncoast is a session beer offered as draught beer only. Very smoth. All these beers have a five-point-something per cent alcohol content and come in bottles big enough for two. You can also buy growlers full, big bottles you can return to refill. I finished off the flight with a seasonal beer with 8.5 per cent alcohol and wouldn't you know it? That one was so good it was almost wine.Be sure to stop in at TBI for a tour of the brewery on Saturday afternoons and a tasting. You might be lucky and walk away with a beer that seems uniquely made for you. Good stuff!
I waited eagerly for Townsite Brewing to open, who wouldn't want a craft brewery in their home town. I was concerned that the beer wouldn't live up to my excitement. I was wrong the beer is nothing short of fantastic. And now it is an award winner for best porter and best seasonal. The staff are very friendly, they offer brewery tours as well as samples. If you like beer this a must visit if you are in the Powell River area.
