It is really a connection from one building to another. I've been working in downtown Calgary for 18+ years and +15 becomes my way of life. You dont need to wait for traffic lights to cross and less time to cross nearby buildings. During winter months it is the best way to walk without going outside. At lunchtime, I walk for an hour (once full circle from my building and back). It is great because you dont need to wear a heavy jacket. One can appreciate musicians too who plays their instruments. There are some beggars at times but not always. Looks like the building security are there to ensure peace is in place. Overall, I love +15.....
When I worked down town I used this skywalk all the time to take me to beautiful Devonian gardens where I would sit & eat my brown bag lunch enjoying the beautiful scenery .In winter when it was cold & snowy it was great to walk to your destination & stay warm & cosy. Now we go to shop & also buy lovely lunches at the food court or one of the great restaurants in the skywalk. We also love the SAIT student kitchen, good food & prices. We do our Christmas shopping in the core & its so much fun. The mall is decorated so beautifully & many services available such as gift wrapping.
I have worked downtown for over 30 years and use the plus15 all the time. No coat required. You can go shopping on your lunch break or you can go for a brisk walk if things are getting a little hectic at work. The good thing about being above ground you always know where you are as you can see outside most of the time.
Given our terrible weather these indoor walkways that traverse a lot of downtown Calgary are a life saver. Get a map from City of Calgary and learn how to maneuver them.
I use it everyday! So great to get around downtown Calgary and stay warm inside! Connects pretty much most of downtown core directly to each other and has a host of stores and restaurants within. Great to explore and ultimately leads to Devonian Gardens!
I was staying at the Westin which connects directly to the +15 so got immediate access. The initial section was made up of a lot of cafe's so no doubt you can get any sort of food here. I walked on into the main shopping. I'm not sure what I expected but the focus, to a large extent, was on the up-market retail outlets and prices were pretty high. Nice to go for a look around and a coffee unless you've got lots of money to spend. However, the quality was high and I came away with a couple of expensive 'T' shirts.
What's not to love? 18 kilometres of indoor passageways, connecting 127 downtown Calgary buildings, at the 2nd floor level (+15 feet above grade). This makes it easy to get around when it's minus 20 outside and you just want to get a few blocks away to enjoy some lunch or shopping over lunch or on the way to the office. The only problem is that it gets you off the street where businesses would see even more business if people went outside, but they do see some benefit anyway. Thanks to the +15, there are many indoor food courts and shopping spaces in office towers as well. Reminds me of the underground city in Montreal, but with natural lighting.
This network of built walkways connecting many buildings features many shops, restaurants, corporate displays, works of art and at least one Little Free Library. Use of these walkways can be a good way to walk between some buildings without having to go outdoors and put on outdoor winter wear.
The "Skywalk" in YYC is one of the best & most extensive in the world--full of fun lunch places & coffee shops! Also loved the art displays--just one more reason Calgary is my fave layover in Canada!
Calary's +15 has always been a great way to get around, but now with the addition of the buskers - it's entertaining too. You never know who will be playing on the other side of the doors until you get there. Love this city!
Love the +15, great to stay warm and see the local people hustling to their jobs. There is a iphone app - would grab it and go for a walk inside, about 100 coffee shops along the way.
This is a must for the city. Saves us on those cold days (and there are plenty here). Sometimes it can take longer to get to your destination, but you do not have to deal with crosswalks and traffic. Also interesting to just walk through them and see where you end up!
Did an exploratory walk around the +15 to find the end. and I ended up close to the calgary tower on 10th Avenue. It was a very pleasant journey.
Leave the jacket in the car (in one of dozens of parkades) and travel the entire downtown area indoors elevated 15 feet above the street level (hence the name Plus 15). Lots of shops along the route(s) and access to all of the big stores and office towers. A great way to get around - especially in winter.
Walk from building to building in downtown Calgary without dealing with the weather. Makes getting around easy and fun to explore
