We did the Whales and Fjord Cruise just after the autumnal equinox, and were very glad that we had the foresight to bring several layers of warm and weatherproof clothing, as it was decidedly chilly out on deck. The good thing about the Grande Fleuve, in comparison with the Zodiac boats, was that it was possible to go inside and warm up again, plus refreshments were on sale (the hot chocolate was most welcome!). Also, being higher up above the sea, in my opinion, provides a better view of the whales than from the zodiacs. I would have preferred to have spent more time in the Fjord, where the water and wind conditions were calmer, and where we did get some very good views of a couple of Minke whales - there were also good views of the fall foliage around Tadoussac.Overall, very enjoyable.
We did the Whales and Fjords cruise. The first thing they tell you is that probably we'll see one or two whales because it's not a zoo but then we saw lots of whales, at least 20! And in one case this giant whale appear so close to the boat (a big boat) that we were almost able to touch it.The guide was excellent, maybe a little too much French compared to English, but maybe the audience was mostly French.Another excellent point was the drive. 2:30 hours from Quebec through an amazing mountainous scenic road.
