Saint Benedict Abbey is a wonderful place and a quiet place. The cheese sold at this store is so good.Inside the Abbey, it's a nice place to take great pictures. Please don't use your flash to not disturb people. If you are a traveler in Eastern Townships, you must go there.
This is a great place to go in the fall to pick apples in the orchard, and take in the fantastic view. You must buy the apple sauce they sell. it's great, no preservatives all natural.
This is a most unusual attraction to visit, an abbey where Benedictine monks are supposed to study largely in silence but also a place where the underground gift shop is humming as people flock to buy religious souvenirs as well as cheese, alcohol, chocolate and apples. I found the juxtaposition a tad unsettling and wish they had put the shop in a separate part of the building. The abbey itself (built in the early 1940s) is starkly beautiful and worth a visit.
A friend suggested this stop. It was a wonderful setting and the shop was nice. Seemed a little bit like something from another world. Very nice visit.
The Abbey was definitely the highlight of our trip to Magog and Sherbrooke. The grounds and the Abbey itself were beautiful. We were lucky enough to attend Prime, sung beautifully by the monks. We were transported to a spiritual place. Their gift shop is filled with cheeses, honey, and religious items. The honey was fabulous. Don't miss the Abbey if you are up that way.
My wife and I have visited the Abbey twice and loved the buildings and the grounds. If you are in the vicinity of Magog, the abbey is only a short drive away - highly recommended.
You step into a world of peace and tranquility here. Gorgeous grounds and buildings. A sense of calm pervades. Local monk made cheeses, wines, syrups, and other products available to enjoy in the shade of the Abbey listening to the bells and chants. Its nice to know people and places like this exist.
Readers of the series by Louise Penny will recognize the inspiration for "The Beautiful Mystery" in the abbey. Along the walls inside you'll learn the Abbey's history, and if you join a service or stand and listen you'll hear the chanted song of the monks. The gift shop includes a number of cheeses, along with some set out to taste. Smoked bleu cheese was rich and flavorful. Chocolates includes ones with vanilla or blueberry centers for $3.95CA a bag. Plenty of religious books and CD's of music as well.
The Abbey was an interesting place to visit. The setting is beautiful and peaceful. You can read about the history of the Abbey and the Monks. There is a store on site that sells religious objects as well as cheeses, jams, vinegars and apple sauces made by the Monks.
Go to the mass and listing the choir and the music. The place is beautifull and so peacefull. Nice place for a picnic with a store on place and around to buy food.
You have to see. It is like to be in another world. Beautiful! You have to attend the Mass in Gregorian chants. They produce their own chese to sell (very good).
A small room with view on the countryside, no mandatory participation to any religious activities, no scheduled meeting with a monk, freedom to go at the library, the church, walking outside, freedom to meet a monk if you desire. Time spent at SAINT BENEDICT ABBEY is Time for Yourself and nobody else! Sober for over 30 years ( alcool and pills ), I' m still going, when beeing in the area, to Saint Benedict Abbey for few minutes or hours.I wish my humble story will help somebody else to admit what I discovered there over 30 years ago: I needed help! Note: I am not a member of any religion and still enjoy every moment spent at Saint Benedict Abbey, like few days ago, with my spouse or alone.
Amazing refuge in a beautiful location. The Abbey is worth a visit. Also, the monetary is a working farm. The shop has wonderful food products made by the monks, including cheese, jam, sweets, etc. The food products make great gifts for friends and souvenirs of your trip.
A.peaceful and beautiful abbey.. The religious services at 11AM are wonderful, irrespective of ones religion/religious beliefs.
The Abbey is incredible. The first view of the Abbey takes your breath away. Be sure to check out the store and purchase some of the Abbey's fine cheeses.
