There is nothing this place doesn't have: new cross-country skis and snow shoes to rent. Excellent trails well-groomed. Warm refuge. Large parking lot. Friendly staff. Reasonably priced. Support the coop!!

While Donna and I were wandering in Sutton, someone mentioned a Plien Air coop. Donna is an avid professional plien air watercolorist so we got directions, hopped in the car with only a cursory glance at TripAdvisor (North of “the border” our data is both expensive and erratic) and headed up the mountain. Those of you who have read the complete listing realize our mistake, but if you are short-cutting, be aware that while to an artist “plien air” means a specific set of techniques for painting landscapes and such in an outdoor setting. In French, the language of Quebec, it simply means “in the open air.”This is an outdoor sports center. As this was our mistake, we’ve linked our ratings with the average given for the place so we won’t change the obviously high regard in which it is held by those who like to exercise.

Went there on our second day in Sutton and really enjoyed ourselves. Plenty of parking with an overflow parking as well. There is a small shack where you can wax your skies and a larger chalet where coffee, hot chocolate and some granola bars are available for purchase. There are a few tables and even a fireplace.Entry fees (daily) are as follows:Adults: $ 14Seniors: $ 13 (55 & up)Children: $ 9 (6-17)Students: $ 10 (9-25)Rental equipment is available. The trails range in difficulty (there are NO easy trails) but are very doable, even for us (mid fifties) and we manged to spend 2 1/2 hrs doing a variety of them. They are very well marked, well maintained and we lucked out with a nice snowfall just a day before. You can easily make a full day of it with a break in between. Approx. 1 km from the main chalet is another small chalet (refuge) where you can rest and relax for a while. very nice scenery throughout! Well worth it!

We went to Pleinairsutton.coop for a bit of cross country skiing. Having never tried cross country before, I didn't really know exactly what I was getting myself into. Thankfully it was beginner friendly! The staff were friendly, and didn't mind that our French was pitiful at best. There had been a record snowfall the previous day, so there were no set tracks and as a result they lowered the price to $9 for that day (down from $14 regular). Since we had never done cross country before, it didn't really matter to us, we had no expectations! We headed out on trail #1 and followed quite a large loop past a cabin, a few downhills and a few uphills later we circled back to the cabin for lunch. The cabin was a fair size, but very rustic and no washrooms. After making a small fire in the woodstove to warm up we had some lunch & headed back out on the trails. After another short loop we made our way back to the main cabin to turn in our rentals. The refuge cabin could have done with having washrooms, but other than that we had a great time! It didn't look like the snowshoeing trails would have been great, and Not sure how the trails would be for hiking in the summer, pretty basic from the looks of it. The Tree Top Trekking might be cool to check out though.

Went on the zipline and treetop challenge course: CRAZY FUN! Haven't laughed and played so hard in ages.

This aerial treetop adventure is not to be missed so long as you have a head for heights! You get from one tree to another in all sorts of ways : by zipline, tightrope, swinging logs, swings etc etc. At points you may be 60 feet up in the trees and although firmly attached by a climbing harness and carabiners it still feels challenging especially of you make it to the giant tarzan swing at the last of the four levels. The kids in our group absolutely loved the thrill of it as did the adults albeit at a slower pace. Note that there is a minimum height requirement and that you should book in advance. The site itself is in a beautiful maple forest and is run as a coop by local young people who did a really good job in welcoming us and giving a training session before we set off.

My husband and I stayed nearby (one driveway over) at the Agnes Horth (incredible!) When we were there- 12-16 inches of powder fell- it was absolutely breathtaking! 32 degrees (F) and we broke a new trail (b/c tracks hidden under the new snow). Trail c was adventurous and absolutely beautiful! We enjoyed the respite (woodstove) and would be interested in the ropes course in the summer. Inviting staff at the home base. Will make this a tradition!

icy conditions and all the crampons were booked, so just walked in boots with ski poles for stability - beautiful location!

Sutton is best known as a ski destination but this place is a little gem. About 30km of x-country trails and 15km of snowshoeing trails all in a beautiful old growth maple forest. The place is managed by a co-op; prices are reasonable and they have good quality equipment hire. Phone first to check if they are open.
