Do i need to go further, great for weddings, cycling, paddle boating. Something to see 100% close to the Casino
I visited the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the annual Formula 1 race and had a lovely time. The metro stop directly at the track which makes it convenient for visitors. There are ample toilets and food stands. It is quite a bit of a walk to make your way to the other side of the track depending on where your seats are situated. Wear comfortable shoes.
Prices went out of sight. Was $35 now $400 I stay home and watch on TV after 22 years of going to Canada
Easy access to and from the venue. Lots of good viewing points and a great atmosphere. Not too far from the city centre
Being on an island does limit access to and from the circuit, saying that they are well organised, after the race it took only 2 hours and I was once again in down town montreal, because it's a Grand Prix it's hard to compare with other Grand Prix, because each place has its memories, saying that, Montreal GP weekend is one of my faviorete and I have being going many years, toilets are plentiful and around the track, food stalls equally abundant, for me compared to other GP it's good value, but it is still expensive.
Home of the Formula 1 race in the summer, circuit Gilles Villeneuve's track is kept in impeccable shape...and it's open to the public! For those reasons, it's a great place for cycling and rollerblading. And if you get your fill of exercise, you can go to the nearby man made beach. Overall a great place to enjoy outdoor activities as a family.
In the summer, outside the great events on the Circuit, it's a great place for cycling. But beware, you cannot do speed. But cycling Sunday is wonderful.
As a first time Formula 1 Go'er and a Die-Hard fan as my boyfriend , We wanted to make the most of our weekend but found there was not a whole lot of information online. Here are a few things I wish I had known and will keep in mind for next time!1. Metro Pass is a god sent! You can get the 3-day weekend pass relatively cheap and it is really the most effective way to access the track as the station lets you off practically in the middle of the circuit. The "metro station" has a liquor/grocery store which is nice to buy a giant 2L thing of bottled water for $3 instead of a 200ml bottle for $8 at the track, There is also a McDonalds and a few other things that you can grab for lunch on a break between the races etc..2. BRING YOUR FOOD+ DRINK ! They will allow you to bring coolers/food as well as alcohol.. The food they offer at the event is insanely priced and relatively no options (your choice of hot dog ($10) or soggy sub ($12). Day 1 i didnt know this , Day 2 and 3 we packed our lunch and drinks ,saved a ton of money and overall enjoyed it better3. Expect to get there early if you want parking at the nearest metro station, closest parking is still a 2-3 minute walk4. If you don't have stadium seats , do not expect shade. There were relatively No Shady areas anywhere in GA and if it was anything like the weekend I was there it is extremely hot especially with the track soaking in the sun! 5. Take advantage of walking the track afterwards. Very cool experience and if your boyfriend is a nerd like mine he will enjoy saving the debris and tire pieces etc as memorabilia! 6. Due to the intense amount of people , I found the food quality and service at the restaurants pretty poor , but you can't really hold that against them. If your wanting to go somewhere nice I would make reservations WAY AHEAD of time if they even take them , or maybe just opt for a takeout kind of night.
We were thrilled to find that on a rainy morning in October, the circuit is open to drive around, albeit at a sedate 30km per hour. Being wet, there were no cyclists to avoid. The first corner was deep in water on the inside - did we know the camber from the TV shots? "Salut Gilles" is painted on the circuit just beyond the finish line. The damage from the Massa incident at the end of the 2014 GP is still there including the tyre marks on the barrier. The chicane at the end of the straight is tight so doing it at >150mph shows how well the cars grip. The rumble on the curves was really felt in our SUV, what must it be like in a F1 car with no suspension travel? All in all, wandering around on a quiet morning with no one else around - wonderful. And if you stop the directions on the SatNav - you can get this photo as a souvenir.
I visited Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on a lovely sunny morning as part of a Ca Roule Montreal cycling tour.We rode approx. 3 - 4 kilometres of the circuit amongst other cyclists, pedestrians, cars and joggers.I got a real buzz actually being on the race surface but knowing I was going about 320 kmh slower than those who compete in the Canadian Grand Prix. :-)Recommended
Myself, my sister and my mother rented bikes to cycle out to the island. It was a leisurely cycle the whole way (although the wind on the bridge made it tough going!) and once on the track we had great run racing each other. However we ended up cycling through a swarm of bugs. Ok, I thought, it will be over soon. Nope! This swarm continued for about five terrible minutes of frantic cycling, the itchy bugs crawling over my body. I was still finding them as I got off the bike at the end of the journey. Not the fault of anyone, but a horrific experience, so be careful in the heat of summer!
The pre-experience was slightly disorganized but once you finally get in the car (I was in a lamborghini) you get to drive a powerful vehicle with an experienced driver by your side. I originally bought one turn of the track through groupon but was convinced to purchase 3. I am very glad I did since you won't get the full experience with only 1 turn. Definitely purchase at least 3 turns you won't regret it. Cons: The video option (pre-purchased) was not working that day, so guests were offered an extra turn, 2 free photos or a $50 coupon for there next visit. You are sent to stand with a group of people not knowing exactly what to expect. Then the group is called to listen to instructions (last just a few minutes). Then the entire group is sent to wait for a vehicle. The wait lasted a good half hour. The only refreshments were available through one fast food truck. It was quite cold and there was nowhere to go to get warm. Bathrooms available were 2 GoHuts.
Interesting and definitely a nice experience as it is close to the biosphere and in a very green space.
If you're a cyclist like myself, there is nothing greater in Montreal to do. From the ride over the St. Lawrence River, to the rush you get when your wheels first hit the same pavement F1 drivers driver on, awesome front, back and side-to-side.
I regularly go a few laps on two wheels. It's a great place for cyclists! I especially recommend the circuit to cyclists who want a great paved circuit to go all-out and test their limits!
