Our second trip to Wellington Zoo - the weather perfect, a Monday during term time, so lovely and quiet. We saw many more animals this time...they were all out and about. We had missed the meerkats last time, so were delighted to find them! We saw the kiwis, the Tasmanian devil (fast asleep on its back!) went in to the enclosure with the wallabies, I think the 'Neighbours' (Australian) area was new since last visit. As a visiting Brit, it was good to see different animals! We had a really nice lunch at the Mojo cafe in the middle of the zoo. Clean and plentiful facilities, and a nice shop.

Best time we had while in Wellington- the kids just loved the laid- back nature of the place. The area where the kangaroos are is not fenced so you can stand right next to them!! Cool walk though the Aussie animal section too... totally free roaming... very unusual and appreciated by animals and people alike. Great zoo.

We visit the Wellington Zoo regularly, because there is always something fresh and different. Today we saw the iconic Blue Penguins in their new enclosure swimming right up to the glass. The staff is always friendly, the whole place is always tidy and the animals are presented in accessible way that looks like their natural habitat. It is always a great experience with the kids.

The Wellington Zoo was a pleasant surprise. For a small zoo, it has several unusual animals, like the Malayan Sun Bear, tuatara, Kiwi birds, Tasmanian devil, caracals (with their enormous ears) and more. The zoo's conservation efforts are impressive. A city bus brings you right to the entrance. It is built on a hill, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. What a letdown! I don't know if I should have expected more in the capital city of New Zealand, but this was small, and only a few animals exhibits and settings. The layout is easy, as one takes a circular path throughout and around the zoo. There is a cafe on site, and a few picnic tables with covering. If you've been to zoos elsewhere, you can give this a pass.

Wellington is not a huge city, but it is the country's capitol, so I must admit that I was a bit disappointed when I visited the zoo. It's sprawling, sparse, and lots of it is closed or under construction. There isn't much to see here that you haven't seen lots of other places and it is not the most welcoming of places.

Great Zoo situated in a suburb of Wellington. The Zoo is on a slope so if you have a disability you have to get your wheel chair from the information centre before going into the park. For old people its a climb going up the foot paths up the hills to see all the animals. The TUCK shop that is situated in the middle of the park is expensive so make sure you have plenty to eat and drink with you. The cafe at the entrance of the Zoo is also expensive however you can get a good rest with WIFI before going into the park :)

who doesn't love the zoo! animals are well loved, they are a carbon zero zoo (yes!) and have great animals with up close encounters. Meercat enclosure experience highly rated, they are adorable and climb on you are super curious.

Wellington Zoo has come a long way in the 12 years since we first visited. They are constantly expanding and improving the enclosures and information displays.Parking can be tricky on busy days but there are lots of car parks around if you take time to find one. It's on quite a hilly site, so be ready to climb some hills, but it's worth the effort.

We recently visited the Wellington Zoo and firstly were pleasantly surprised at how cheap admission was... at around $20NZD per adult this really was great value for money. The zoo was very well presented with all exhibits and surrounding paths being clean and in good repair. The zoo itself doesn't have its own parking so if you are driving yourself you will need to park in one of the surrounding streets. Unfortunately not all of animals were present when we visited otherwise this would have got a 5 star rating.

You can tell a lot of thought has gone into conserving the natural bushland. It's literally a zoo within a mountain. Easy to find the animals you want to see, some of the closest experiences I've gotten to wild animals in a zoo! Never seen better enclosures for the animals they have heaps of room and look genuinely happy. The best zoo I have been to so far. Wear very comfortable footwear though as there are some very steep hills and I mean STEEP. Don't go after leg day!

Perfect for little people! My 1 year old loved it, especially the giraffes. Lots to see and do and the talks are really interesting. Wear flat shoes to be comfortable walking up the slopes.

Wellington zoo is awesome, you can get to see a great variety of animals eg sun bears, and several grassland cats, they also have Tasmanian devils .
