A wonderful beach to visit with lifeguards, warm water and gentle waves. It was great to see people resting in deck chairs, my family playing beach cricket and building sandcastles with the littlies and everyone else having fun. A delightful day at the beach!
Great to drive along Foxton Beach then stop for a swim. The beach is sparkling this time of year and well worth the drive if you are not a local. The water is even warm which does not happen often. Bring a book, deck chair, water and a few snacks for a great day out.
A lovely beach for fishing, swimming (Patrolled by Lifeguards), or just to lay on the beach in the sun with a great book.Foxton Beach has plenty to offer with the camping ground close by and the river mouth for those that don't like the tide. Cafe's, take away shops, 4 Square, and even a 2nd Hand Shop just opened for the casual lookers. Foxton is just up the road with the Windmill and the Horse Drawn Carriage for a bit of history and the crafty shops all make visiting Foxton Beach a great experience for young and old.
The facility at the camp site was excellent everything you need to make you feel at home. The grandchildren enjoyed the 2 days we were there. and we just relaxed. The beach they loved it as well. There were waves which I think attracted the kids plus you could drive on the beach. Good place for the kids to learn to drive beach buggies and bikes.
Love the fact you can still sit in your car on a rough day at the car park and still see the ocean. No Sandhills in front. Some wonderful food places to eat, a great little florist/gift shop half way to the beach, the boat club, the river for white baiting or fishing, go for a stroll around the point, all safe to let the kids or animals run wild.
Park the car and walk along the estuary to the sea. The locals talk about walking the 'loop' from the estuary to the surf club. At low tide you can walk out to the point where Kapati Island can be seen. On a clear day Mt Taranaki can be seen as it appears to rise from the sea. The wide open spaces free your mind and sole while the salt spray enters your lungs and the sand tickles your toes. Birds scatter and squawk as dogs run towards them. Simply Balmy has a delicious menu to match any city dining experience. For those wanting a takeaway meal to eat on the beach while watching the sun go down, you can't beat Mr Grumpies Takeaways. While at the beach it's a short trip to Foxton where there is a New World supermarket, Hammer hardware, pharmacy and other essential shops. Visit the De Mollen wind mill where flours are made and sold or the Dutch Shop on the main road.
We've been to Foxton Beach a number of times and it really is a secret hidden gem. It's like the New Zealand of days gone by. Gorgeous unspoilt beach and sand dunes, cute baches, great fish and chips, surf life club, birdwatching at the Manawatu Estuary, lovely walks, great playgrounds for the kids. and on the right day you can have the place to yourself! The weather is noticeably warmer than wellington too.
we have a beach by our town but I love Foxton Beach because there is a carpark right on the beach, I use to take my parents because they didnt have to get out of the car and could be entertained by people enjoying the water or just playing on the beach, great little restaurant around the corner too
