The Free flight aviary there is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING !!! probably the best native species enclosure in New Zealand. Vary good encounters, Large enclosures make for an awesome time.
We were not expecting the Zoo to be so good. Lovely meandering shady paths to stroll along and spacious areas for the animals to live in. A great selection of animals who didn't look stressed or bored. An excellent way to spend an afternoon.
Such a well laid out zoo. Such a fantastic place to visit and great value for money too. The cafe could offer a better range but still very satisfactory.
i have had two visits to the Zoo this January with grandchildren both times we had a fantastic time it was great to see the animals in as natural as possible environment.Hint take a pushchair if going with a toddler as it is quite a walk around the whole zoo and take a picnic to keep costs down.Cool on a hot day.
a fantastic day out..very environmentally friendly for the animals..had some really up close and precious experiences..a picnic between the Meerkats and the Chimps was in beautiful surroundings
Situated on the outskirts of Hamilton at Rotokauri.Large selection of animals many in open paddocks. An ideal size for young children with a limited attention span - you can easily see most of the animals in 2-3 hours.Easy parking and very friendly, helpful staff. Try to see one f the feeding times and you will notice how much the staff love their jobs. Recently saw the rhinos being fed and the member of staff involved was so wrapped up in looking after her "family".A great day (or half a day) out.
If you haven't been for a few years the Hamilton Zoo is well worth a revisit. They have done a lot of work and if you get to the aviary first thing in the morning you will see many wonderful birds. This is a warm inviting family attraction.
Awesome place to visit I go most years never get tired as they make changes all the timeExcellent family thing to do
Beautifully laid out. Interesting gardens. The animals all look well looked after and have plenty of room.
A lovely zoo to visit. In my opinion it is comparable to Auckland zoo but without Auckland prices or Auckland traffic. It is a bit of a distance out from Hamilton City but it is worth the drive. Lots of animals, clean and tidy, posted feeding times and a nice big play area for the kids right by the main cafe. Food in the cafe is not exactly 5 star gourmet but is perfectly acceptable (we usually take our own picnic anyway).
I recently went sometime near the end of 2014 and it wasn't what I expected. It was an overcast day and there were hardly any tourists and a lot of enclosures were closed or you were unable to visit them. The grounds were tidy and staff were friendly though which made up for it.
Took my son to the zoo last year and he really enjoyed the variety of animals, easy to walk around and friendly staff.
A well layout zoo. Walk ways are excellent and good for children. The animal enclosures are clean and well presented. There is a great variety of animals. Well worth a visit
I took my Grandson there, and was thrilled with the display of all the animals. It was a fun afternoon
Visited early January when we had a spare day from travelling around North Island, really nice little zoo, loads of exhibits, were able to see lots of native birds, as well as exotic species, interesting talks took place on key exhibits and we were able to catch quite a few, easy layout to navigate and easy viewing areas for all animals, would definitely recommend to anyone who has a spare afternoon in the Hamilton area! Staff were located all around the zoo with information about exhibits, very welcoming!
