drive to kare kare . Walk over the hills to paraha valley. Out onto the beach and back along the sand to kare kare. A great day out. Maybe 3-4 hrs easy
An easy 20 minute drive from South Auckland and the ascent leads to some spectacular views of the areas bays. Thick vegetation frames the myriad of treks/walks one may take at the summit with trail markers at the outset. The stillness, lushness and calm are occasionally broken to the song of their indigenous birds. The length and ease/difficulty are up to the visitor. I found myself returning several times during my vacation stay. Continue for 20 minutes more and reach the Tasman Sea and Piha beach with its active surf. How lucky for residents of Auckland to have such great outdoor resources within an hour from anywhere in the city---Call it True Quality of Life !
This site has great views but the main interest is in the displays/information provided about local flora and fauna.
A lot of tracks to do. The visitor's centre is worth a quick visit and has good views of the ranges. When choosing a walk, I would recommend something further out along the water for the best views and a chance to go to the black sand beaches as well. For a family friendly hike not too far out, Fairy Falls and Kitekite falls is ideal.
The Waitakeres are a teally beautful place to visit. Aucklanders are really spoilt. There are so many things to do and see in and around this beautiful area. We are really lucky having family living inside the ranges and visit quite regularly. Magical place
This park is great, so much to see: beaches, waterfalls and the bush! Beautiful! A must see when visiting Auckland.
Surprising to find such a nice natural place so close to Auckland. It has numerous walking tracks, I quite enjoyed it.
Water Falls, Walking tracks, Hiking, Green and clean.. Fresh up your lungs for sure..with a great view..
How can you come to Auckland and not see the amazing views of the region from the Waitakere Ranges? It's an absolute must-do
Sepdn the day hiking to the Kitekite waterfall and surrounding areas, so gorgeous, super friendly folks there too...def worth a visit
Windy roads take you into the Waitakere Ranges, where you'll get the best introduction to this area at the Arataki Visitor's Centre. The bush walks vary in length and physical challenge, and everyone should at least do the short Plant identification walk around the visitor centre. The nearby beaches have energetic waves, black sand and great scenery.
Amazing views, great tracks to walk and no wild animals to eat you :) what is not to like :).....................................................................................
Fabulous, views and scenery, great walking, birdlife, forests, cliffs and beaches. Explore on foor or by car - might need a 4 x 4 in some places. Find villages with cafesoffering delicious food and drink tucked away. Follow the Hillary Trail if you are an intrepid walker. Surf on the beautiful beaches of the Tasman sea. If you love breathaking scenery and/or outdoor activities don't miss this area
Very interesting area - we would have liked more time there! Our guides from Bush and Beach Tours (Allan and Wendy) were very informative.
A drive to the West of Auckland City will lead you to the bush covered Waitakere Ranges and the township of Titirangi. An excellent art Gallery and places to eat here before choosing further ventures down to quiet beaches or rugged coastal areas famous for their surfing.
