Really nice easy well signed path to visit the waterfalls, but make sure you have good shoes as it can bee slippery. There is a total of three waterfalls.

Our private circle island tour included the Faarumai Falls. As soon as we left the main road it started raining. You need to walk a path through the rain forest and climb over a small bridge that has a chain across it. The waterfall is quite high and there are interesting views of it as you approach. You can get relatively close to the falls. There were not many people there as it was raining and the ship tours do not include it.Note: it is not wheelchair accessible.

Driving past the 'Trou du souffleur' which is not always 'blowing' (just hear the sound of the air blowing underground most of the time) , the access to the waterfalls are about less than 1km on your right if coming from mahina - Paenoo side - Follow a lovely road up leading up to the cascades (waterfalls) - I enjoyed the hedges of red flowers and feel for the polynesian homes and gardens along the short road. There is a car park at the end of the road with closed shack. There are well indicated board nearby the bamboo hedges to invite you to discover the legend of the waterfall and pay attention to the flora around. Sometimes the footbridge is closed and chained with padlock but everyone walk over it - Swimming is not encouraged due to sudden fall of rocks from the top but many locals enjoy a good swim on a hot day. The paths are well traced but not for buggy or disable access. They are rocky and very muddy on a rainy day ! We went there during week day around 2 pm and only met two set of people on our way back. I really enjoyed the walk to the waterfalls and took lovely pictures, I also appreciated the beauty of the spot and having it to myself ! It's completely free !

I drove here from Papeete in a rental car, a journey that took me a little over half an hour. It was a five-minute easy walk to the base of the first cascade, Vaima Hutu. It was a longer and steeper walk to get close to the other two waterfalls, Haamaremare Rahi and Haamaremare Iti, which lie about tandem to each other. A lovely view. Be prepared for some steep terrain. And for pesky mosquitos!

Many circle island tours include these falls on their itineraries. They are 22 km from Papeete along the north coastal road. Shortly before the turning to the falls, you pass the Blowhole of Arahoho (Le Trou de Souffleur), a slightly underwhelming attraction where water jets burst through rock depending on the severity of the waves. The three waterfalls at Faarumai are down a 1km long track in what is called the Valley of the Cascades.

The falls are off the main road, but a lot of tours go there. It is a short, but in places steep hike. French Polynesia is NOT handicapped friendly

My husband and I enjoyed the walk to the falls. Make sure you read the legend of the falls and go to visit all 3. I gave them an excellent rating because these are some of the first waterfalls that I have been able to swim under and enjoy the lagoon in privacy. It was great and took less than an hour. *Traveled in August 2012 but am late in my reviewing!

It is worth the extra walk on a good path to see the twin falls! The walk can be a little muddy after rain and do put on mosquito repellant as they were in abundance! Great car park nearby and a snack shack. Often tour buses go but the people on the buses just go to the first fall so therefore you can be the only ones at the twin falls. Do visit all 3 it will only take 20 minutes. Oh and is free!!
