food to eat, things to drink, handicrafts from local producers and the scenery made the mindil markets an incredible option for nightlife while in Darwin. Thursday nights should at least be started down here, and maybe stay all night. we had nights were we stayed put and had bonfires and watched shooting stars over head while music and smells of nearby vendors overtook our senses. there are crowds, but you will also find one of a kind art to bring home to your loved ones. try everything once - BUT NOT POSSOM. it was foul and was like chewing a car tire!

Make this a must do for your trip to Darwin. Take your camera because you'll get awesome pics of the sun going down. Fire breather, live entertainment, food shops with various asian cuisines as well as some local specialties including barramundi and crocodile. Some aboriginal art is also available as well as various souvenirs. Parking available for all the grey nomads, and the bus stops right outside the market. Take the number 4 and get off at stop 11 the one after the casino!

Mindil beach Markets is a very busy place on a Thursday where you have a variety of different foods! I love Market foods and go as often as I can just to get a taste! I love getting a smoothie and walking around looking at all the different stalls. Arts, clothing, massage, toys and much more. If you are not into the crowded place then you're better off going to a quieter mellowed out market on a sunday arvo. Singlet, shorts and thongs is most appropriate clothing :) The beach is also right there so if you can get there early enough for a sunset then i advise you do that! NT has the most beautiful and stunning sunsets I have ever seen! Markets are too good to miss!!!

Go down on a Thursday night to see the fantastic sunset of the Top End. Would recommend going a bit earlier so you beat the crowds as it can get quite busy! Food is relatively cheap but definitely have a look around and compare prices. A lot of the merchandise they sell there is from Thailand so watch out for them totally ripping you off :)

always plan your trip to darwin to include the thursday mindii beach market where you get the best sunset enjoying a glass of byo wine, tasty food cooked by families who came from overseas countries and use fresh local produce. listen to the music while eating the cooked food, diced fruit or ice cream then wander among the stalls of local craft. many people return for the sunday night market.

We were staying next door at the SkyCity and ventured across to the bustling pop up market. 3 different live acts were playing to entertain the crowd, and the food selection was fantastic. BYO alcohol.

if you love markets, these are a must..night time just near the beach. Go early and watch the stunning sunset, then cruise into the market for fabulous food, buskers, stalls. Very talented people selling gorgeous wares. See a picture painted in front of you.

Very dissapointed that the landmark markets are closed when other markets in Darwin still operate year round. Sure if the forecast is rain but done throw the towel in so quickly.

So, I'm easily won over - I found a crepe stall and I was immediately happy! There are lots of food and juice bars to choose from, and plenty of stalls to wander. The beach gets very busy at sunset, but it's a great place to end the day.I'm not sure if they regularly have entertainment, but I was there during the Darwin Festival, and the entertainment was great - the fire shows especially!

After reading so much about these markets and the variety of fare on offer, we found ourselves a little disappointed and left after about 45 minutes. There was an abundance of food outlets with several ethnicities represented. The pricing was equivalent to what you would pay at any food court at the mall. The other offerings appeared to be geared at overseas tourists with lots of crocodile skin products. Try and arrive around an hour before sunset so you can get a car park.

Mindil Beach is a great multicultural food experience with local entertainment and a wide range of market stalls. Well worth a visit - in fact we detoured 400km for a second visit! While you're there, make sure you sit on the beach (use plenty of good quality insect repellant to keep the midges away) and watch the sunset over the water - spectacular, particularly if there's some smoke in the distant sky. You can take a glass of wine or beer with you if you wish, and many people take chairs and/or rugs to sit on. Unfortunately the markets only run until the last week in October each year.

Near the entrance  to the market we were entertained by Emdee who played indigenous music with a twist. They were so good the we bought  a copy of their  latest album. The band really  provided a lively  atmosphere to the markets.There were a large number  of  food  outlets to suit all tastes.We had  buffalo burgers which were superb. Even though  they cost $10 each they reminded  us that quality low fat meat really makes a huge difference  to the taste of a burger.Deserts were also  very good. We had some of the best ice cream we ever had from one stall and Dutch pancakes with berries  and cream from another.Also on offer was a great selection  of indigenous art, jewellery, leather goods, clothes  etc. Prices for most  things  were moderate. No bargains  to be had here. However, in most stalls  the prices were OK   for the quality  of the product.We attended the second  last market for 2014, ending on the  last Thursday of October.

Great food and atmosphere people friendly and a wonderful sunset don't leave Darwin with out going here.
