This was the last stop on our trip to Clare Valley and it was a great end to a long day. The wines were great. Totally recommend this place.
Situated conveniently for hikers and bikers at the start of the Rattler Trail and near the start of the Riesling Trail, the cellar door for the Mount Horrock Winery is housed at what had been the Auburn train station until a devastating brush fire wiped out the tracks of “The Rattler.” The setting overlooking the smaller of the company's fields (the other is on the way to Clare) offers a country feel just a few blocks from Auburn's main street. The wines, long on Rieslings, were pleasant, with some nice hints of citrus, but not complex. The winery’s little restaurant hadn’t been able to keep chefs, operating as it had only on weekends and government holidays and with only four tables. Posted on a wall outside the cellar door were maps of the two hike and bike trails that converge (more or less) there – the Rattler Trail and the Riesling Trail.
