This was our splurge trip for Victor Habor. The day we went out was very windy with very rough seas, but Oh what a ride! 2 mt waves coming right at ya! "Mum, this is the best ever roller coaster!" We got totally drenched despite the waterproof gear. Saw several pods of dolphins, plus seals & sea lions with pups. The dolphins were amazing and swam in formation alongside the boat. This is the only thing in Victor Habor that needs to be pre-booked and you can do this at the Info Centre. We did the 1 1/2hr tour and loved it.My only recommendation is to check the weather and take a sea sickness tablet before you go with a change of clothes if it's going to be super rough.
had a great time on the tour today. Just the 2 of us, with a boat load of great folk from littleuns, to older folk. Very choppy conditions, but handled like a pro. Saw seals, and tons of Dolphins. It was simply awesome. We had a fantastic time, and would highly recommend. It was 42 degrees, but there was a canopy that stopped the sun in her tracks. Fantastic trip. BRING A CAMERA...!
Went on the Big Duck Boat Tour yesterday and had a great time. Suitable for all ages. The crew were very helpful and pleasant. Went out to Seal island and saw several seals sunning themselves. Then we cruised along the coastline to the Bluff looking for dolphins - but didn't see any, still we had a great time. The explanations about the sea life and the seals with very good, pitched for all ages. The sea wasn't particularly rough but we had a thrill ride back, getting soaked, laughing all the way, with the crew making the boat going around in circles, very fast. The grandchildren thought it was fantastic. The crew provide wet jackets for you to wear if you don't have your own. Good explanation about life jackets and offered to put in life jackets for the children but were not needed. Felt completely safe on the boat and with the crew. No feeling of being rushed but 1/2 hour is probably ample for children by the time we got back we felt it was well worth the money and would do it again in a heart beat. Great adventure.
A group of seven of us went on this great attraction! It was a lot of fun and you will get to see some great sea life. Highly recommended.
I think for $35 you get a great half hour water tour that is fun. We saw dolphins and seals and had an exciting ride on the waves. Took grandma and young kids, who got on and off Duck ok.
Great place to see some of the wild life in their natural surroundings. Not only did we see the Sea Lions and NZ Fur Seals, but (for the first time) we saw the bottle-nosed dolphins merrily swimming and jumping around in their natural habitat. The crew also did not hurry things up (like typical tourist attractions do normally), but spent a good amount of time helping us sight the dolphins and remain floating there for a significant amount of time. Real pleasure and absolutely recommend this one.
I went on the Wildlife & Sightseeing Tour where we approached some of the small islands off Victor Harbor and saw sea lions and fur seals lazing on rocks and swimming. We came across a pod of a dozen or bottle-nose dolphins that swam around and under our boat as we stopped to watch. We enjoyed the coastal scenery past Granite Island, Rosetta Head and the Waitpinga Cliffs. The boat is sturdy, fast and comfortable and the crew very pleasant, professional and knowledgeable about the locality and its marine wildlife.
Had a great tour. Loved every minute of it. Dan and Bec were great guides. The seals and dolphins were great to watch. Want to go on another tour with them soon. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.
We had the most beautiful couple of hours, scooting across the water, round the islands, along the coastline with a very capable, competent and polite 'captain'. I can't speak highly enough about the comfort of the boat and the content of the trip. Though we weren't' lucky enough to see whales, there was abundant wildlife to enjoy. Seals, seal loins, dolphins and plentiful birdlife. It was just lovely and excellent value. Highly recommended.
The Big Duck Boat tour is an invigorating experience on an expedition-style rigid inflatable boat. After departing from the Granite Island Causeway, the cruise took us to Seal Rock where lots of seals were basking in the sun. We also saw dolphins and lots of seabirds, but no whales (unfortunately). No motion sickness (my child's usually quite prone, but felt ok on this cruise), just lots of sunshine and water-splashing fun.Do book early on the website as the tour is very popular! And you may want to bring a waterproof bag for your camera and other valuables as there will be splashes now and then. Your hat may be blown away by the wind, so wear something that can be properly "secured". Have fun!
A highly recommended trip on this tour is a must when in SA. What a great way to spend an afternoon in such perfect weather. No whales but heaps of seals and pointed nose dolphins. It is simply magic! This is such a great tour and Dan makes everything so interesting. The children on board this trip squealed with delight (lots of the adults did too!)
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Dan. He is relaxed, interesting and provides a terrific experience. The two dolphin species were great to see as we're the N.Z. Fur Seals. No whales to be seen. The boat ride was truly invigorating. Money well spent.
I and my 84 year old Mum came on the tour. She has had a total hip replacement. Dan very expertly helped Mum onto the motorbike style seats without too much trouble. Wet weather jackets are provided. Dan gave a very informative talk. We saw seals, sealions, fairy penguins free swimming, sea birds including an albatross and a large pod of dolphins stayed and played at the boat for about 20mins. This included mother and calf. It was fantasic. Sadly no whales this time but the playful dolphins made up for it. Awesome. Book early on website. Not to be missed if visiting Victor Harbor
We enjoyed our trip to see the dolphins and whales. Weather was cold, but we enjoyed seeing the seals and dolphins, no whales unfortunately. Dolphins were so close to the boat. It was fantastic.
This trip is a must-do when you visit Victor Harbor. Dan's commentary is informative and interesting. The duck is a great way to see the wildlife on the outlying islands - including the birds at the conservation post, the seal colony, and the pods and pods of dolphins! Unfortunately no whales on the day we visited but the sun was shining and the wind manageable. Although a cold winter's day, the weatherproof jackets supplied ensured we were nice and dry for the duration of the tour. Would highly recommend the Big Duck Boat Tours to visitors.
