On Saturday we visited Mount Gambier for the first time and this was on our 'to do list', and I'm so glad we came here. Its absolutely gorgeous and cannot be fully appreciated until you have been there yourself. The fact that its free is such a bonus, as I would happy pay a small fee just to come and have a look at the gardens. It really is beautiful, so much so that when we visited here on Saturday there was a wedding just finishing off there, and I couldn't imagine a more beautiful place to hold a wedding , and have all your photos taken. I've never seen anything else like this before, a garden in a sinkhole - AMAZING.
Loved this place - such a lovely way to fill an hour or so. Lots of steps to walk up and down but very doable. Sadly we were a little late for the hydranges but imagine that it must look amazing when they are all in flower. Couldn't believe that this place is free to visit.
Loved the gardens and feeding the possums nothing to dislike gardens are well kept free of charge and the possums are looking for food at dusk
This sinkhole was made into a fabulous garden in the 1800's.Well worth a quick visit, but be prepared for a considerable climb down the steps ( and , of course the climb back up!!!)
Lovely hidden garden with beautiful surrounds. Would love to go back with a picnic basket and blanket. Well maintained gardens.
It is like going in to another world. The rocks, the plants the scent is just amazing. The kids loved it. We had lunch in the park an finished off with a walk ik the sinkhole. Really nice
Couldnt ask for anything more natural and lovely than this. Went during the day and enjoyed the sun beaming down into the sinkhole. We then returned at nightfall to see all the possums come out from the cliff wall holes and spent an hour down there with the possums. Awesome.
Well worth a visit. Felt like you were in another country. Quite unique to have such a nice garden in a sinkhole and so close to the heart of Moun Gambier. Significantly better than Caves Garden in the centre of town
The hydrangeas had all browned off so the place looked nothing like the postcards -attention needs to be paid to fast action when this happens. The concept is good -very much of its era and the overall impression is "try's hard needs to improve" .Don't buy postcards at the kiosk they are more than double the price at the Visitors centre on Jubilee Highway.
Very attractive gardens in the sink hole. Lots of steps down to base then back up again. Easy parking and free activity. Definitely worth a visit.
Certainly worth a visit if you are in Mount Gambier, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. There is some interesting information available on the geology and history of the sinkhole which is an impressive size and nicely set out as a garden.
Worth a visit as it's in the town centre. The sinkhole is surrounded by a manicured lawn and beds of fragrant roses. A must see when you visit the Mount.
LOVE love love this place. I remember going as a kid and its just as lovely going back as an adult. Beautiful gardens in and around the sinkhole with info boards about how it was created. The possums come out at night and can be hand fed by visitors.. we found they especially loved grapes and apple. Avoid giving them bread.... its not meant to be part of their diet.Go in the day AND at night to get the full experience.
you can go down to the base - walking....away from the hustle and bustle of life.....serene and green....
