A must stop when u going to sydney from south east. U will love the views and a great place to take some memorable photos.
i was taken along this bridge, great curves. You can park on the southern side and walk along the bridge which comes out over the water. You can see the beautiful colors of the water and then look back at the cliffs behind you. Then you can imagine why this bridge was built. Check out its history.
It is amazing to marvel at the engineering that went into building the bridge to replace the earlier road that was prone to rock falls. You literally drive over the sea. What a fantastic sight. We stopped at the car park, walked over the bridge before going back to the car to drive over it. This is a must-do for any visitor.
Its a amazing feeling. Initially i thought its just another bridge but when we started walking over it and started crossing the sea its such a beautiful experience. With one side covered with high rise mountains and there is sea below your feet its such a beautiful experience.
We took the Grand Pacific Drive and went through the Royal National park. It was an amazing drive through the greenery and the views from far was great. It was a bright sunny and hot day but the wonderful scenery insisted us to stop the car and spent some time to enjoy the spectacular views and the breeze. The views from every ‘lookout’ points were amazing. If you are in a hurry please stop your car at least once before reaching the bridge. Parking is available in both side of the bridge but my recommendation will be park your car in the southern side and walk along the bridge. (Limited parking in the southern part, better get there early). If you planning a trip in Sydney for more than three days then it’s a must go destination.
This bridge is amazing how it snakes along the coast. You are able to walk along the length as well.
The Sea Cliff Bridge is a bit of an engineering marvel and, although it's good to drive the bridge, it's even better if you walk it. It's not a hard walk, but is worth the effort for the bracing sea air, the views of the sea and coast and also some consideration of the sheer skill and ingenuity that allows something like this to be designed and made.
This bridge is a wonderful testament to the engineers & designers engaged to replace the old road. It is a beautiful structure & well worth the drive and/or walk along to enjoy not only its beauty but that of the surrounding views. I can understand why it is used in many commercial advertisements as it truly is spectacular.
You can see this bridge from the top of Bald Hill Lookout, but you really need to view it close up to appreciate it. The old coast road to Wollongong used to hug the cliff, but falling boulders made it hazardous and potentially fatal for motorists. The rail line avoids the problem by a tunnel. Engineers decided that only a concrete bridge curving out away from the cliffs and over the pounding surf would solve the road problem. It's interesting to drive over, but find a spot to park and then walk along the bridge footpath and you will appreciate the design.
Colecliff and Scarborough, NSW are separated by the Seacliff Bridge- an engineering feat that by passes the old road (now filled with fallen boulders from the escarpment, underscoring poignantly the need for the new road.Every time you walk or drive across this bridge, it's a thrill. The road hugs the cliff at its start and finish but at the centre is cantilevered over the surf. If you're leaving your car to walk across the protected footpath, it's best to do so at the southern end.Council has kindly provided information boards about flora and mining history of the area but took exception to the build up of lovers' padlocks (a la Parisian bridges) that grew up in its early years. You will have seen this bridge on footage of ads for cars, motor oils racing events and in movies- not everyone knows where this treasure is but the whole world recognises it.It's worth making the trip from Sydney- there's lots more to see on the way at Stanwell Tops and beyond- Wollongong is visible on the massive coastline views available from this sensational vantage point. The Seacliff Bridge is 'bucket list' material.
My wife and I have been wanting to drive over this bridge for some years and finally did so this month. It is quite an amazing bit of work. The nearby cliffs were renowned for major landslides which cut the road for months on end so they built a bridge around them, over the coastline. We had a walk over part-way and it is quite spectacular. There are other better bridges around but it was built for a purpose and sure does the job. Definitely worth a look.
This is an amazing piece of design. I recognised it from the ads it is used in. There is an observation area but the parking is very limited and finding a spot to take a photo is difficult.
We took the coast road from Sydney to the South Coast so crossed the Sea Cliff Bridge which follows a small part of the shore line at the base of the cliff. Whilst it's interesting to see, it's a bit of a let down if you've travelled overseas and seen greater enterprising, grander and more spectacular engineering feats.
This is a great drive along the coast road, it is often used in TV commercials for cars. When driving you miss a lot of the view so I took the train to Coledale and walked down to the bridge to Scarborough Hotel for a coffee. Got bitten by sandflies along the way but the walk is very impressive. After the coffee caught the train at Scarborough back to Wollongong.
Sea Cliff Bridge is a spectacular feat of engineering, a concrete structure sneaking past the cliffs in a giant S-shaped curve. You can park a short distance to the north and walk down to the rocky shore below the bridge. There are great views of the bridge, but also of several really strange rocks, which make this a great spot for photography.
