When crossing the border between QLD and NSW along the Tweet River most people take the M 1 and miss out this beautiful lookout with the lighthouse. Take the exit towards Kingscliff, but instead of going there, drive directly to Fingal Heads, which is south of the Tweed River. Park your car directly near the Headland and walk 10 minutes over these rocks and take your time: You will be highlt rewarded, as this is one of the best lookouts along the NSW coast, looking south onto the bay of Kingscliff and looking north towards the Gold Coast, which stretches about 60 km north towards Stradbroke Island.
Daydream beach will steal your heart on the right day, or walk up the headland and view the dolphins of whales passing by. nearby takeaway shop's and caravan park's for weekend visits
Nice spot. walk is not hard and nice boardwalk with steps to get to the lighthouse. probably 10 minute walk from carpark. Nice ocean views and views back to the next headland. when near the edge of the rock formation there is a steep drop to hexagonal rock pillars with waves breaking on them. Unfenced area so one slip could be fatal. Lovely scene but no facilities there for picnics.
A short walk to a small historic light house (1878) with some information signs about its history. There are about 40 wooden steps to climb. The track is easy and meanders through coastal trees. The track also has a diversion off to the right and takes you down to Dreamtime beach, a good surf beach. View of Cook Island, Point Danger and Kingscliffe. There is also an unusual rock formation with pillars but be care full near the edge, it is not fenced at all. Keep a close watch on little kids.
This is an excellent way to just chill, the light house is an easy walk from the road that offers an amazing ocean views. It is more than likely that you will spot several dolphins and during the wale season you have an extremely good change to see wales also.
The drive to Fingal along the river is a pleasant contrast to the hustle of the Gold Coast and the Tweed area. Reaching the lighthouse is easy and the view is magnificent. There is a sense in Fingal of being in an earlier decade which is peaceful and more tranquil than the present. Well worth a visit
We've been here a few times now. The Fingal Heads lighthouse is in a beautiful location with stunning views of the ocean, nearby Cook Island and sea life. The walk up from the small car park to the lighthouse is easy and by far scenic, with plenty of beach flora and only a few steps. A history of the lighthouse is displayed on a board at the top near the lighthouse and the remains of an old house. There are also some beautiful beaches nearby. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet, interesting and beautiful place around the Tweed/ Southern Gold Coast Area.
This is a beautiful area. When you get up to the lighthouse area it is just an amazing view looking towards Kingscliffe. There are a few trees to get under for shade, take a picnic lunch. We enjoyed watching the surfers and saw a pod of dolphins.
Pay $7 for parking because the view alone is worth it!! Was a bit windy but seeing the whales was amazing
Worth a look. After a nice drive alongside the Tweed River there's a small car park near the headland. There's a track of about 300m to the headland, not wheelchair accessible as there are about 20 steps, also ground is quite uneven, especially on the headland. Great views of the southern Gold Coast and northern NSW beached and, of course, a chance to look at the old lighthouse which is still in use. Good information boards at the top too. The 5 minutes walk can be made longer if you start looking for the birds in the trees, there are a lot of banksias in flower so the honey eaters were prominent. At low tide you get a good view of the causeway.
Ancient viewing..the way the water had worn away the rocks over thousands of years..the walk to get there was relaxing..worth a visit
Easy walk up to lighthouse, reveals stunning views. Watched pods of dolphins surfing as well as whales. Great views to Kingscliff. Don't know if I want to share this perfect little spot!
It's an easy walk to the headland and light house along a sandy pandanus lined track. It is only 5-10 minute walk from the car park. There are steps involved and no structured paths when you are at the lighthouse, so not wheelchair friendly. The views from the headland are just lovely, looking over to Cook Island and down the coast to Kingscliff. We sat for ages watching a pod of dolphins and numerous whales.
Fingal head with its gorgeous lighthouse is absolutely amazing. Its quiet, 10 minutes further than the Gold coast that is packed. White, pristine beaches stretching for miles. We bypassed coolangatta and other main beaches to head down here a few time. So great and The sheeoak shack with live music restaurant and bar under the sheeoak tree is really cool.
We really enjoyed our time walking around Fingal Head and the lighthouse. It was a really nice sunny breezy afternoon. Highly recommended when in the area.
